I've been using the stock fans that came with my Cooler Master HAF 912 case for about 3 years now and I'm looking to upgrade to something quieter. I'm also using the stock fan that came with my Hyper 212 heatsink, and would like to upgrade for the same reason.

Any recommendations? I've heard Noctua fans are pretty good, as well as Blacksilent Pro's. I was planning on getting Noctua s12a's for case fans and an NF-F12 for my heatsink, but wanted to do more research before pulling the trigger.

Welcome to Linus Tech Tips! The stock Hyper 212 fan is fine. If the case fans are a bit loud consider some Be Quiet Silent Wings 2 fans

Be quiet! Makes good fans, if noctua is a bit too pricey.

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Hey,

So yeah, cooler master stock fans suck, at least with my case. I even had problems with motor whining noises.

If you're willing to spend money on Noctuas (like I did), then I'd definitely recommend to go that route. S-12's will be great for a case like this, though I'd want to remove the top HDD cage if using something not designed for static pressure.

I'd also recommend swapping out the 212 fan (they may be good as Aniallation said, but I'd expect them to be noticeably louder than the S-12s). The F-12 offers the best performance, but I'd generally consider P-12 PWM fans to be the better noise/performance ratio, they're quite close to the S-12's in noise level, unlike the F-12.

There are other good options from over brands of course, but who doesn't want the pure sex appeal of beige fans?

The beige fans are so fugly, but I'm not worried about them that much. Only I would see them as I don't plan on doing any mods to show off the components. Not with this case, anyway. As for removing the top HDD cage, I tried doing that last night as I was messing around with cable management. I plan on putting in a SSD and two additional mechanical drives (for backup and storage), so figuring out where to put them all without the top cage will be an issue.

There are plenty of great airflow fans you can get for your case. Noctuas are great, but other great options include Be Quiet fans, Sythe Gentle Typhoons (if you can get them), Corsair AF fans (after PWM control), FD Silent R2s and some others. If you have any questions about any specific fans feel free to ask about them, I'm sure someone here will know :)

I just did a bit of a sound test. I unplugged my front stock fan and didn't notice much of a change in the "loudness" of my system. I then unplugged the rear stock fan, and while it does have some noticeable buzzing, the CPU fan (which came with the Hyper 212 cooler) definitely makes the most noise. That's to be expected, I'm sure.

For my case fans, I think I've settled on either the Noctua NF-S12a's or the FD Silent Series R2's. I like that the R2's are cheaper and aren't ugly. But which fan moves more air and which is quieter?

Tech Uploaded just did a review on the new Noctua fans. The NF-S12A Redux seems to be really quiet and moves a good amount of air. I say go with those.

I just purchased the NF-F12 to act as my new CPU fan. I'm gonna do more research on case fans. I'll probably need some sort of static pressure-optimized fan(s) as intakes since I'll need to keep the top HDD cage in place since I'm adding more drives.
