[Tutorial] How To Install Netflix on Ubuntu 14.04

NInety

I've had Netflix running on Ubuntu and Xubuntu 32-Bit. I currently use Xubuntu 32-Bit as my every day OS.

Step 1: Go to Ubuntu Software Center and search for 'wine'. Install wine before doing any other steps. Also make sure that you have Mozilla Firefox installed. If there is a check-mark next to the icon as in the image below, you already have the programs/packages installed and you're ready for Step 2.

Step 2: Install Pipelight

Pipelight allows you to use Silverlight on Linux. To install Pipelight, open terminal emulation and run the following code.

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:pipelight/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pipelight-multi

If you need help with Pipelight click here.

Step 3: Enable Silverlight

This step is pretty straight forward. Assuming that you have kept the terminal open, run the following code.

sudo pipelight-plugin --enable silverlight

Step 4: Install Netflix Desktop

Type in the following code and run it.

sudo apt-get install netflix-desktop

Step 5: Run Netflix Desktop

The first time you run Netflix, Wine will automatically open and configure Silverlight/Pipelight. The first time that you try to watch a movie/tv show (after you've logged), you will need to click the 'Activate Silverlight' error that pops up.

Thanks for the awesome tutorial :D

I'll use it if I ever stop using Windows.

Netflix is love. Netflix is life.
