[OLD]New Build - Need Some Advice

Been watching Linus Tech Tips for over a year now but I have never built a PC and I really want to.
I have a budget of £600 but £30 or so over would be ok. I am currently running games such as Fallout NV and GTA4 on minimum settings and would like a step up for future releases especially with next gen consoles on the way. You can see what I am currently running in my signature at the bottom.
So far I have come up with this:

CPU: Intel Core i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor (£88.39 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155 Motherboard (£101.89 @ Aria PC)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£27.99 @ Dabs)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£45.98 @ Aria PC)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card (£159.99 @ Dabs)
Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (£39.95 @ Aria PC)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply (£56.96 @ Dabs)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) (£65.99 @ Aria PC)
Total: £587.14
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Alternatively:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor (£85.99 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46 ATX AM3+ Motherboard (£66.50 @ Ebuyer)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£27.99 @ Dabs)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£45.98 @ Aria PC)
Video Card: Asus Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB Video Card (£194.50 @ Amazon UK)
Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (£39.95 @ Aria PC)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply (£56.96 @ Dabs)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) (£65.99 @ Aria PC)
Total: £583.86
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

I am not sure about which build but will stick with the 4Gb RAM. I would also like a mobo with SLI or Crossfire capabilities.

EDIT: I have updated the build a bit further down. Thanks for all the advice guys!

Thoughts and advice will be greatly appreciated.

If sole need is gaming I would say get amd build and use the saved cash for upgrading the Gpu.

Looks good. I would go with a HD 7870 instead of the 660 as they are within the same price bracket but the Radeon performs better if you watch linus' benchmarking vids a while back. Also you are streching yourself a little thin by sticking with 4GB ram, that's fine if all you intend to do is surf the net and watch vids but for gaming you are going to want 8GB.

You might want to consider going the AMD route on this budget.

This will be a better gaming experience. :)

Switched i3 for fx6350 hexacore, changed mobo accordingly, ramped up ram to 8gb, exchanged gtx 660 for hd7870 oc (probably the best £/fps cards)

You can add a Cm 212 hyper evo for 25£ or something that will give you cooler temps and perhaps some small oc headroom, but excluded it to stay beneath the 630£ goal ;)

I would recommend going with your amd setup, change your motherboard for a Asus m5a97 or a Asrock 970 extreme 3. Your Msi mobo has poor Vrm so you won't be able to overclock much.

Add an aftermarket cooler like the cm hyper 212 and you're good to go ;)

Do go for 8gigs of ram. 4 will run out quickly.

Feels like a i3 may bottleneck 660 in gaming performance. I would suggest a ssd in the build, To go easy on the budget, you could get a mSATA ssd and run Intel smart response with the z77 chipset. Caching the most frequently used files; best of both worlds.

In agreement with everyone else, go AMD.

8gbs or ram would be better.

If your old computer has a stable hard drive I would suggest reusing it and buying an ssd for boot purposes. It is the best way to make your experience snappy.

Waste of a z77 board if you're going i3.

Here: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/ZPOU

The 3470 is an excellent quad core and isn't that far behind the 3570k in gaming.

This micro atx case/motherboard will have front and back usb 3.0 as well as 4 ram slots for if you ever want to get more ram as well as sata 6gb/s slots for future ssd upgrades while maintaining a small and sleek form factor.

8gigs of CL9 1600 ram in a low profile is good stuff.

The barracuda is a good and reliable hdd. 1TB should do you fine.

The 7950 should knock out any games you need at high/max settings at 1080p.

All for about £577.

Where about would one purchase the ''Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0'' case in UK? Thinking of getting it myself. Also, the price of ram and case is not included in the build?.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

I think that I am going to go with this and take the hard drive out of my old laptop and use that:

CPU:  AMD FX-8120 3.1GHz 8-Core Processor  (£114.99 @ Maplin Electronics)
CPU Cooler:  Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  (£24.49 @ CCL Computers)
Motherboard:  Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX  AM3+ Motherboard  (£71.98 @ Dabs)
Memory:  Patriot Viper 3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (£38.91 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card:  MSI Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB Video Card  (£169.99 @ Aria PC)
Case:  BitFenix Shinobi ATX Mid Tower Case  (£49.90 @ Amazon UK)
Operating System:  Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)  (£65.99 @ Aria PC)
Total: £593.21

Thoughts and advice will once again be greatly appreciated.

What about storage? Do you have one already? Barracuda is great value for price. Also, you might want to keepa a eye got CPU and MRB bundle in the uk, they can be much cheaper sometime.

Whoa, sorry. I did not notice that. I thought something was weird. Here's the case though: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fractal-Design-Core-Series-Micro/dp/B004ZH18G4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369507540&sr=8-1&keywords=fractal+design+1000

I made a few edits. For some reason the some price of the case but I guess that's just a bug. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/ZW2f

The case in the link is the has USB 2.0 port in the front. The case in question had USB 3.0, which I can't ant where in UK. Other than that the build looks pretty solid.
