Maybe that's a US thing, although I doubt it. VW parts are usually pretty cheap as they are often used throughout the VAG range. I've always been pleasantly surprised when buying parts for VW's.

Maybe it is just here, but in the US, VW parts are on par with Merc parts, and BMW parts. Or perhaps its just that I am spoiled by the price of Ford parts :P

We dont get that particular model here in the US, but everyone I know who has bought a new VW has regretted it fairly shortly after buying it.

Parts are very expensive, and they dont seem to be wildly reliable. I would look at a Ford Fiesta, or Fiesta ST if you can fit it in your budget. :) car shopping is a ton of fun so enjoy it, the act of actually buying is a bit of a drag.

well here parts are actually pretty cheap as you can imagine and my '99 golf 4 has 270000km on its back and still runs fine for probably another 270000 with very little maintainance so i dont know vw seems to be pretty reliable

I know the older VW's were very reliable. If you notice I did say "New" VW's.

I have known several people with good luck on pre '00 VW's but it seems that after about '10 that all changed.

Also 6.3l/100km sounds just too little for a 2.0l engine. Anyways...

Also be sure that u'll have to spend at least half the amount of money you spend for the car in rims/suspention/darker lights and windows when u want a scirocco like the on in the picture u posted in your first post.

Scirocco don't look very good @ the beginning, just when u tune them they'll look nice (specially the back of the car).

yeah well ill probably get the back windows tinted and maybe some good rims but i would say thats it. but surely my opinion on that will change with time

hmm i dont know i was thinking about a '09-'10 and i guess they will still be better in that regard than freacking renault or ford for that matter

If they are on par with BMW and Merc parts something is seriously wrong. I needed to get a wishbone for my e46 ended up costing me about £250. Like for like parts I would say VW is about a 1/3 of the price here.

I like the GTI when it comes to stuff from VW.

Edit: Oh yeah, Ford's hot hatches are pretty nice, too!

yeah well the gti doesnt really suit my needs and ford is completely out of the picture. i mean i like those to ... for looking at them... but for actually getting one ... hm.. meh
