Depends on what you are going to be using them for.

If you are going to be overclocking a lot, go with the AsRock, the MSI board has very few power phases which can lead to less stable overclocks.

If you are going to be gaming, go for the MSI due to the installed Killer NIC.

Both are great motherboards, but I would personally go with the MSI because it looks awesome and the one MSI motherboard I had was great!(P67-GD55). I especially like the MSI UEFI BIOS.
MSI customer service was pretty good also.

I have a Z77A G45 and I can safely say it's a fantastic board. Overclocks very well too.

Not sure on Asrock Z77 but what's important are the VRMs. You get what you pay for basically.

Both are good, but MSI is the way I would go.  Great value on the G45, can't go wrong.

Personally I'm a MSI fanboy, more so directed at their GPU range.

G-45 is a solid board, no complaints and is usually priced lower than the Extreme4.

Perhaps peek at teh GD-55

Not trying to sound biased here, but in my past experience my asrock board died in 8 months, but their RMA was very good and i received a spare 970 extreme3 (after my first one died i bought an MSI GD80V2)

I would also go with the MSI board because imo MSI has a better build quality than the Asrock.

Best motherboard i had was ASRock (part of ASUS at that time, maybe now even), ther eis no doubt they was quality brand, same goes for MSI. But those new boards, idk to be honest, nether one. Maybe Asus is good in low-mid range sector.

In high end, all of them should be good, but, who knows, i can't say if i don't try them, and trying all motherboards is impossible.

Honestly, i will change motherboard probably,a nd i have no clue what to get, because all of them i tried are bad in low-mid range, and that is price point i look.

Most probably you will be satisfied with both of them.

ASRock often gives you more stuff on their boards for less money, and they are improving their quality, MSI is old school hardware giant, you will always pay more for Asus, Gigabyte, or MSI, as for the rest, you can get same features for less money, MSI is a safe bet, but do some research on newer ASRock boards ( z68, z77 ), people that have them are satisfied.

I'd take an MSI G45 over the Extreme4. I prefer the looks and features of MSI, plus, I do not really like ASRock.

The extreme4 has a better power phase. Both have terrible MOSFETs, though. There's nothing wrong with the Asrock board other than a bug that causes your voltage readings to be lower than the actual voltage going through your CPU, but if you're buying an extreme4, I'd hope that you aren't doing any heavy overclocking.

I'd strongly recommend you spend the extra money on an extreme6, if you are overclocking heavily.

Everyone has DOA motherboards. You shouldn't base recommendations on angry newegg comments.

Yeah I agree. Even if he hasn't looked at Newegg comments, ASRock does have a higher than usual DOA and RMA rates, from what I've heard.

It depends on the particular board.  All the major manufacturers can claim to have had higher than normal issues on a particular series of boards.  Some more than others.  I've always purchased ASUS and MSI and had no issues on the 7 some odd boards I've purchased.  But, that's only 7!  It's a numbers game and eventually if I buy enough I'll get a bad one no matter what the brand or model.

The clincher for me is the SUPPORT on the back-end.  I've had to use MSI support in the past when I wasn't as knowledgeable as I am now and I had a good experience with them.  We can only really speak to what we know first hand.  But, second hand I can tell you of two individuals I personally know who bought ASRock and the RMA/Return process could have been much better, according to them.

MSI all the way 16+ builds no DOAs of any kind or problrms. There RMA is alright my cousin sent in his and got it back 3 weeks later in an MSI Intel Motherboard box his was AMD so be sure to check the box don't assume they sent you the wrong board if you need to RMA for any reason.

Even if that's true, if you buy the motherboard in person, that really shouldn't be that much of a hassle. Plus, a higher DOA rate might just mean that 2% of boards are DOA instead of 1%, or whatever's the normal rate.

Buy the better motherboard, and don't worry about DOAs. You can return them.
