What is the best AMD and Nvidia card you can run on 450w

So I was messing around with some builds for a friend who requested a decent PC at a small size, and he means small, so I want to use an HTPC case, and they only use sfx power supplies, and the best one you can get (not the most powerful, but the best) is this one that silverstone makes and its 80+ gold and modular, but its only 450w. So I want to know, what's the most powerful card I can power with 450w. I'm not going to recommend this to my friend (i'm only going to recommend him something like a 750ti or 260x, as those suit his needs), but anyway when I recommend advice to those building to get a bigger PSU people always disagree and say all you need for a 280x is 450w, or all you need for a 770 is 450w, "I run my i7 extreme and 290x on a 430w psu" blah blah blah. But is this the case? I used the cooler master psu calculator, as there's seem to be the most up to date, and for a mini itx build with an i5, it says that a 270x will only use 370w, even though AMD recommends at least a 500w psu for a 270x, and then for a 760 only 360w is stated, and again nvidia recommends at least a 500w psu for a 760, so can these cards run off of a 450w psu? Can that be pushed further to the 280 or 770?

EDIT: Also this PSU has 37 amps on the 12v rail

@tman2damax11 AMD overkills harder than hard. A system with a 280x will consume about 360W during gaming so your 450W is fine. You have NO headroom for things like OC'ing though. You could even get away with a GTX 780.

This image lists TOTAL power consumption (Not just graphics card. Do put a little on top of everything though to account for heavy games like Crysis 3 and upcoming Witcher 3 and for spikes in consumption. General advice is get a 500-550W PSU.

I know the bare minimum for the 780 is 500W. So I think a good competitor for the 280x @Archangel1994 mentioned would be a 770/760.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Just letting you know that I run a power hungry quad core CPU and a 270X with a 450W 80+ Bronze PSU. With headroom.

The recommended values of 500W are just in case you use a REALLY shitty PSU.

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/6551/asus-geforce-gtx-750-ti-2gb-oc-edition-video-card-review/index15.html

The above link has TOTAL system usage under 3D mark 11. This should give you a good idea if you scroll to the 450W section.

Mind you different parts will have different consumption.

Typical power consumption of an Athlon 760 is 81W which is not power hungry really.

For a quad core I think it s, I might be wrong though, I think it has something to do with it using an APU architecture... But I'm not really sure.

if its atleast silver, you can use a titan black if you wanted to. just not that much room to overclock to add more than 1 ssd and 2 hdd.

Wait what, the 80+ rating doesn't determine how much of the max output you can use, it just how efficient it is in terms of power input to output and how much heat is created.

A lot of people go for too big PSUs but on the other hand side a bigger PSU if it´s like my Corsair AX860 (platinum rated) can actually help you save money for they are very efficient and you have some more reserves when you want to do things like CF/SLI.

Now the power draw... it isn´t really bad in all reality.

My HTPC with a GTX 750Ti (i5 4430) draws in idle 68 Watts and under load rougly 130 Watts.

My highend gaming PC with all components OCed and watercooled and a 2 way GTX 780 Ti SLI uses 153 Watts in idle and under full load 700 Watts even (I do have a Watts-meter here).

As conclusion you will be able to run with an i.e. Corsair CX 430 Watts (bronze certified) a GTX 780 if you are not looking for any OCs.

Intel i7 7820X (delidded) @ 4.9GHz - MSI X299 M7 ACK + EKWB Fullcover Block - G.Skill Trident Z 32GB @ 3466MHz - nVidia Titan Xp + EKWB Fullcover Block @ 2.1GHz - Samsung 960Pro 2x - WDD Blue 2TB - Seasonic 750W Platinum - modded Corsair 600C - Hardtubed Custom Watercooling

I found the best way to check if my PSU is struggling. Is to run any benchmark with msi AB/rivertuner & hwinfo64 OSD.

Watch your cpu clock speeds & gpu clock & memory speeds for droops. It also lets me know to up my volts on OC's (because something is thirsty)
