Boycott the gtx 780

jecho

I think it is a tad bit expensive but you get what you pay.... Lot's of people are moving to ATI cause of it... I will always be a NVIDIA guy but the prices should come down a tad... Nevertheless it is fucking beast

i7-3770k, Gigabyte UD5H, NZXT Switch 810, OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD, WD Caviar Blue 1TB, 560 ti Twin Frozr II OC 2GB, Cooler Master V8, Corsair Vengeance 8GB, OCZ Modxstream 700w, Corsair k60 and M65. OH and RED LED LIGHTS   FUCK YA    :)

i think they might be doing a 6gb model of it, in which case im getting 3 of them instead :3

The points are on the board. Just buy some wholesale GDDR5 RAM chips and try out your soldering skills and you have a 6GB 780.

Just my 2 cents on this.

The GTX 780 is like the 3930K.

The GTX Titan is like 3960X/3970X.

In both scenarios, there is only a marginal difference in performance between them but the price difference is about 35-50%.

I don't see what the fuss is about with the price of the 780 when the 3970X and 3960X had a better welcome.

Comparing graphics cards to CPUs is not a great idea, but following your trend I'd rather get a 3770K equivalent in the form of the 7970/770.

I was just using it as a reasoning behind the large gap in the pricing despite marginal performance differences. That seems to be the trend being set by both companies.

The way I see it, the 780 and 3930k are for the performance enthusiasts while the Titan and 3960x/3970x are for those that just want to have the best of the best, cost be damned: elitist enthusiasts.

This.

You always pay a premium for high end cards. If your personal preference is to have that level of performance (or just bragging rights), then buy the high end card and be done with it. If not, then buy the card which suits your requirements for performance and nothing more. Yes, AMD's cards tend to have better price/performance ratio. Yes, their cards also have frame stuttering issues. Whether you can/can't live with having frame stuttering issues, or do/don't care about having the best price/performance ratio, buy what meets your needs.

The 780 does provide a large generational boost in performance compared to the last generation series. If you want that level of performance from a single-GPU card, then buy the 780. If you want the absolute best single-GPU solution, buy the Titan.

Looking at Linus' benchmarks, the 780 does have a better price/performance ratio than the 680. Depending on the game and settings, its price/performance ratio is sometimes close to that of a 7970 and close to that of a 660Ti. If you can afford and are looking to buy a high-end card, then don't get the 680 and grab the 780 (or 7970 depending on your pricing needs). If not, then buy something else or wait until the 770/760Ti come out.

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use, and by some other means to give us knowledge which we can attain by them. - Galileo Galilei

There is no set price when talking about flagship GPU's.  Nvidia has had their high end cards cost anywhere from $800 (8800 GTX) to $500 (GTX 480/580) to $650 (GTX 280/780) so to expect a certain price based on performance is not realistic.  The biggest factor in the pumped up pricing of Titan and the 780 is AMD's lack of an immediate successor to the 7970, a video card that is 18 months old.  With no competition on the horizon, Nvidia has taken advantage and priced their cards accordingly.  Once the 9970 launches later this year expect prices to drop back to more normal levels.  Until then, you gotta pay to play!

That is why it's good to have competition, but historically, in my neck of the woods at least, even if the AMD were release its Volcanic Islands series of GPU, nVidia cards would hardly be affected pricewise as there's always willing buyers who believe that the best vid cards comes from nVidia....and that AMD drivers are 'teh suck'. Before someone jumps in and say, "This is what an AMD fanboy would say", I do have 2x GTX670 in my 2nd rig.....I'm skipping HD7990/Titan?GTX 780 and waiting for Volcanic Islands.....nVidia themselves have admitted that they are losing the framerate war, and looking at the VI specs......well, I'll wait for its release and check out benchmarks.

Where I live it's a different story entirely, money is tight & people are cautious, Nvidia cards don't sell well here.

Everybody goes AMD.

It's pretty much the opposite where I'm from. NVIDIA dominates the market here, mostly due to the fact that AMD has near nil marketing and that NVIDIA cards have been highly regarded since way back.

Stop being poor.

Brutal.

To be on topic, the 780 is a premium card and premium grade items usually cost premium moneh.

but the good thing about tech is that today's top-end gear will be obsolete in 6 months so yeah... I am soooo blown away by that. comment.

Money is tight everywhere, still, there'll always be fanboys with deep pockets. In a local tech forum, there's a guy with a slightly higher spec'ed machine than me, OK 4x 8GB Corsair Dom Plat 2133mhz instead of just 16GB like mine, but he has 3x GTX Titan, imagine that! That's about 3900USD right there!

And the guy with the "Stop being poor" comment, that's......uncalled for, to put it mildly.

1.212V is the hardware limit imposed (need an altered bios to reach).

The price isn't increased for no reason you fool! You get what you pay for.

to be honest... he kind of has a point.

every "flagship" card has tended to go up in price the fast few years (at least for nvidia) when i was looking for a gpu a while ago the 580 wasn't near 500$. now only good 680's were touching that price point (after taxes and such).  marked price increase each year is somewhat silly. we don't pay each more for nissan maxima's because they upgrade the headlights and change the engine around some. it costs the same.

not like the micro-chip business suddenly had a huge increase in manufacturing cost.

It's a little overpriced sure, but it all comes down to if people are willing to pay that much, and apparently in general people find $650 to be acceptable.
I mean look at the PS3 on launch or the next gen consoles...

Oh, they surely will. This will sell lot hotcakes especially when you consider that the Titan, in 3 months, has already outsold the 690 which is nearly a year old.

If you want high-end P/P GPU then wait for HD 9970 i guess. But AMD is dropping prices so much, along with free games, that buying Nvidia now will only benefit you if you are not overclocking or if you use CUDA... or if you need better card than 7970.
