I am building a gaming pc in the near future and I have a budget of about $1000 - $1200 I was originally going for a AMD FX-8350 but everyone keeps telling me its going to do horrible in games and its going to cost me like 30 fps and that I should get the intel 4770k instead. I am going to be doing gaming and video editing on the PC so keep that in mind, thanks in advanced to anyone who helps.

No an 8350 isn't going to cost you 30fps in games. If it's for pure gaming your CPU (8350 or intel equivalent) isn't going to bottleneck your gpu in 99% of games.

From "theAMDgamer" lol. Just messing with you as you're probably right but in CPU intensive games like BF4, don't the intel chips pull ahead? Maybe that is just something I conjured up. For the most part you're right though.

HE SAID GAMING AND VIDEO EDITING!!!!

Op the 8350 is fine and is not going to cost 30fps at all it will be on par with intels offerings and do good job for video editing if u can afford 4770k go for it as if u get a z97 board u will atleast have some sort of an upgrade path as u wont have to buy a new board when broadwell comes out.

If you think you can leverage & squeeze into your budget the high end i7 with hyper-threading, go for it! (I kinda had an estalagem when members keep saying you only need a quad core >_<)

I think their just lying, 8350 will do fine.

the 4770k is overkill for just gaming, it's more for video editing and stuff

(If you do decide to get the 4770k get the 4790k instead, their almost the same price and the 4790k runs cooler than the 4770k.)

the 4690k is probably your best option in my opinion

For such a large budget, the answer is Intel.  FX processors are great for video editing and rendering, but that is about it.  In order to overclock an FX, just to match the stock performance of an i5, it requires very expensive motherboards and cooling, you are better off going with Intel.  Not to mention, FX processors have awful single core performance, which is what the vast majority of games and programs rely on.  If you play games like MMOs, RTS, Diablo, Starcraft, LoL, DayZ, Indies, etc.. they are not going to run as well on FX as they would on Intel.

You don't need an i7, only need an i5 for gaming.  If you are really serious about video editing, then go for the i7.

Here is a $1,000 build:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XsnWzy
Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XsnWzy/by_merchant/

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($199.99 @ Micro Center)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($24.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI Z97-G55 SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($98.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory  ($78.30 @ Newegg)
Storage: Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($59.99 @ Amazon)

This is an incredible build that will handle anything you throw at it from day one, as well as being highly upgradeable.  The performance RAM will help immensely in video editing, it is currently on sale right now, order it before the sale ends.  It is usually a lot more expensive.

The Hyper 212 EVO is a very good CPU cooler considering how much it costs, I used it myself for awhile, but I saw a deal on the Cooler Master Seidon 240M for only $60, and I jumped on it.  Keep an eye out for that water cooler to drop in price again, it is well worth it.

Your video card is the most important component of a gaming build.  Right now, the R9 290 is the best price to performance high end card available.  It performs almost as good as the 780, but at a fraction of the cost, and comes with 3 free games.

If you would like to go with a more premium case, the Phanteks Enthoo Pro is probably the best case out there for your money.  It is $100, but it gives you all of the premium features that one would want, and very high build quality.

You have a very good budget, and you have a lot of options, this is just a rough draft to give you an idea of what you can expect.

Please reconsider.  You have to buy a 990FX series motherboard if you want to get the most out of your 8320. Which I think you intend to do because you are going liquid cooling.  Also, don't spend 15% of your budget on a case, even 10% is a lot.  There is nothing to upgrade to from the FX line.  AM3+ is a dead socket, that processor is from 2009.  At least if you go with Z87 or Z97 and start with an i5, you can always upgrade to an i7, and Broadwell will be supported with a firmware update.

You can build a MUCH better computer for your money.

You get what you pay for... Just gaming, go for AMD. Productivity, stay with Intel. FX-8350 is the best "value for money" CPU. If you're looking to upgrade your CPU later on, I wouldn't rely on AMD, they seem to be focussed on APUs.

It is not.

In order for the FX to reach even the STOCK performance of an Intel i5, you need to pay the same price, not to mention, the FX processor bottlenecks high end GPUs:

Achievements for the overclocked score:

Brawn

Your GPU is ready to rumble, but your CPU doesn't want to play." <-- This is direct from Firestrike, an 8350 OC'd to 4.8Ghz with an R9 290X.  It scores 9,000.

A stock i5-4670k with the same R9 290X scores 11,000.

In Cinebench, the 8350 @ 4.8Ghz  + R9 290X doesn't even hit 100fps in the GPU test, the stock i5 with the same GPU hits 118fps.

Price difference is only $10:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/CcjvdC

Total: $281.64

Vs.

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hbxTpg

Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker....pg/by_merchant/

I cant buy everything from an online retailer unfortunitly as I live in a rural area and I planned on ordering everything loacally and picking it up so sales online I usually just ignore as I probably wont be able to tak advantage of them, but I am considering buying the intel then upgrading to an i7 when needed but the cost of the 4690k $299 is not that far off the 4770k that is $369. I forgot to mention I live in canada I dont know if that will effect prices.

Much better build, if you want, you can upgrade to the i7 and still be within $1,200.  This comes with performance RAM which will help your video editing.  Also an SSD, that is a very good SSD btw, at a very good price.

@SargentJoker

That is the wrong Processor / Motherboard combo.  Stick with the same motherboard and get an i7-4790k.

Also, get different RAM and CPU cooler

CPU Cooler:  Lots of people are having problems properly mounting the H100i, just search this forum and you will find the many problems.  If you want AIO liquid cooling, search for a NZXT Kraken x60 or Cooler Master Seidon 240M.  If non-AIO the Cooler Master 212 EVO is an amazing CPU cooler for only $30.  I used one for a long time and I would still be using it if a really great deal hadn't popped up.  Best price to performance cooler on the market.

RAM:  Get some performance RAM, it will help a lot with your video editing and rendering and doesn't cost much more.  Either 1866Mhz 9CL or 2400Mhz 10CL

Do you have a copy of Windows to install on your SSD?  If not, you need to budget for that.
