I am sure this has been asked before but every system is different and all the tips i found didn't help.

So as the title suggests, I  get low fps with my gtx 780 ghz edition. It's not OCed, no is the CPU right now, the driver is up to date. I recently switched to Windows 8.1 but I hardly think that's the problem (?).

Interestingly the GPU doesn't even go to maximum clock speed. GPU is in the first PCIe slot. The CPU load is only 8%.

Any ideas?

What type of FPS do you get? Could you give a specific game? 8% CPU sounds a bit low to me, even in single player... Maybe I'm wrong but the CPU usage doesn't sound right...

I remember on my old laptop - which had a seperate, dedicated gpu - at one time the gpu couldn't be detected and i got low fps on games because it was running on integrated graphics processing.

Did you plug your monitor into your graphics card? Sometimes I accidentally plug the monitor into the motherboard when making changes.

Bioshock Infinite 2-141fps, avg 42. (ultra preset benchmark)

Tomb Raider 24-38, avg 32 (ultimate preset brenchmark)

CS:S 28-49 fps, avg 38

GPU ramps up to 1175MHz , 1162mVwhen I play the newer games btw.

Maybe I spoke too soon. Looks like it is just CS:S then. :( My most played game -.-

try using FRAPS to bench your normal FPS.

www.fraps.com

Try the beta driver, it may have a work around to your described problem.  When you install make sure to due a custom install so you can do a clean installation.  If this doesn't work try the mfg driver's, same steps for a clean install.  Finally one last thing, check the bios and disable Intel HD graphics, a long shot but it might help.

still getting only 40ish fps in CS:S  This is really driving me nuts. Setting the hl2.exe to compatibility mode didn't do anything eitehr.

Do you have Energy Saving Mode in the ASUS Ai Suite activated?

I remember one time I had the same "problem" and after I turned EPU setting from Power Saving to Performance Mode, the PC was a machine again :)

I'll check that. brb.

You tried to reconect your gpu? Since with that gpu you should get more than 100 fps in bioshock infinite...

What do you mean? Simply take it out, put it back in? :D Sounds a bit too simple ^^

I got a 770, Win8.1 and I get over a lot more FPS in CS:GO than that.... What's your CPU? RAM?

Right okay so there isn't  a bottle neck.

did you stick your monitor into your motherboard instead of your video card?

Check this, because if you've plugged it in to the motherboard your CPU is running the display, check this. Also power cables to the GPU and PSU, make sure it's plugged properly into the mobo. ALSO no one has asked yet, are you running 3 monitors and using all 3 to game? Or is it just one? Because if it's 3 with a high res that might be way, if it's not then I'm fresh out of ideas.
