What do you prefer driving, automatic or stick?

I think between '90 and '04 is the sweet spot. The electronics are surprisingly simple, yet the engines in this time make monstrous power.

For me the sweet spot is 69 to about 98^^

Not really into cars that were made after the 90s.. The electronics just make them a b**ch to work on.

Give me an old datsun 260 or 512 and i'll be happy for the rest of my life  ;)

Those old datsuns can be really awesome

No. Carburetors are a total bitch to work with. I am more on the tech side. I love computers, and I mend them with my love of cars. The 510 and 240Z are the only exceptions.

My 2002 Protege is still surprisingly easy to work with. Heck, it uses the same engine as the MS Protege, which is turbo'd.

And on most of them you can get at almost every part of the engine easily. (would've been nice if you quoted me a bit later though xD.. Wrote 512 instead of 510. Funny how +2 is the difference between a ferrari and a datsun in this case

I love carbs. And i find them easy to work on. Sure the OBD diagnostics on newer cars make it a bit easier. But carbed engines just have that great sound and can rev harder too :P

Love the old Datsuns. Surprised that one had a KA in it; at least they're keeping it in the family. Something I'd like one day:

No. I have to disagree. Fuel injected cars sound better and can stay in redline longer.

carbs are fun yeah. I have a friend who has a 85 rx7 with a carbureted 13b rotary. The sound that thing makes is ridiculous! Simply change the mixture a bit and you are shooting 4 foot flames haha

I disagree. Especially when you see a muscle car, those things sound like a regular smoker talking. It's too loud. I prefer the fuel injected JDMs with the catbacks purring at idle, unlike muscle cars, which cause such a racket.

I've worked with rotary fuel injected cars before. It's meh.

Sound is more about the exhaust system and cam profile (or porting - rotary) than fuel delivery. Your idolization of "JDM" is hilarious though.

Rotaries are interesting engines to me. And they are nice to work with.

Especially since you can take the entire thing apart and really get in there :)

Depends on where you live; if manuals are common learn to drive them, and if automatics are common don't bother learning to drive a manual. Where I nearly all relatively new cars are automatic so I only know how to drive automatic.

Please quote me if you want me to see your post about my post, otherwise I may lose track of the thread and never see it.

I'd love to help, but I'm probably gonna' have to ask for more info before we can get anything done.

Have a wonderful day.

Nah, my area, cars are mostly manuals one day, autos the next day. And I live in the same general area as you.

I usually see a lot of old (like 90s-00s) cars, which are usually stickshift, one day, and then the next day, I see a lot of new cars, which are usually auto.

Yep, mostly  mechanical, compared to auto's mostly electronic.

I've never driven an automatic car in my life, and of the 3 pedals the clutch is the one that gives most control.

There's no excuse for not being able to drive a manual car. It's easy, (this is directed at Americans) and if you ever find yourself in Europe have fun with your rented car you shouldn't even be allowed to drive.
