Quick question

So I am about to install my new NH-U14S and I was just thinking if you could use denatured alcohol instead of isopropyl? It would mean that I don't need to go to the drug store.

I mean, it's just normal ethanol with some additives to make it taste bad and colourful

But I wonder why everyone's like "isopropyl ftw"

Unless isopropyl alcohol has some different reaction with thermal paste than normal alcohol that I don't know about...

I just rub paste off with a fapki...I MEAN napkin. Nothing has exploded or caught fire...yet.

You can both clean with them. It probably is just fine and people are overcome with the <person uses it so it must be good> mantra that goes about.

 Take that 70% garbage back and get the 99%. If you use anything under 90%, you need to let the CPu sit for a while to make sure that it's absolutely dry / free of moisture. Or take a hair dryer to it.

I based my mantra off the sheer amount of generic Fractal and noctua uses on this forum. But that'll do .

@ObeseWalrus it is probably the same stuff but if you CPU disintegrates let us know.

I went to the chemist because my mum wanted something and I thought what the heck, i'll just buy it it is really cheap

Denatured alcohol is fine. The additives are mainly stuff like methanol, aceton, ethyl acetate and other low evaporation fluids. They're basically all solvents and will evaporate without residue.

 

I would be more worried about stupid scents in there but who doesn't like a nice smelling CPU? :D

I use the arcticlean kit, but have since filled them up with what they use which is citrus based cleaner, here I get De Solv-it and the second bottle I use +99% isopropyl.
