Posted July 15, 2014 It's still a pretty relevant system. Actually extremely similar to one of my buddies builds. If you think you'll actually use 2 PC's I'd keep it. Personally, I'd sell it, and get an ultrabook or a tablet if you wanted another device. Diversify your bonds, ______. Posted July 15, 2014 @shorinman You could upgrade to devil's canyon with a Z97/Z87 motherboard like the asus z97 a. Posted July 15, 2014 A 7970 is = to a 280x. Keep it. Unless you absolutely must have top of the line, that's still great for gaming. EDIT changed my mind for around that price I was able to lazily (not price checking or anything) able to make a PC with an H440, 4TB drive, 128GB evo boot drive, 7770 EVGA superclocked, and a i7-4790k in it. I don't get why you are being offered so much, but it'd be worth selling at 1600CAD. muh specs Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0 ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat All parts black Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays Screens- 3 ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area) Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch
 Posted July 15, 2014 You could throw a better CPU in and maybe a new GPU when 800 series comes out but other than that it seems to be a solid rig.

Posted July 15, 2014 With $1600 CAD I came up with this on ca.pcpartpicker: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/crystal6tak/saved/4mWBD3 CPU: i5-4670K (Upgrade from 2500k) Cooler: NH-D14 MB: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming RAM: Kingston Fury Black Series (2 x 4GB) 1600 SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM GPU: Asus Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II (Upgrade from 7970) Case: NZXT Switch 810 (White) PSU: EVGA 1000W (Upgrade from 850W) Total: $1583.18 Heck if you throw in an extra $100 CAD you can up the cooler to D15 and RAM to 16GB and it'll total at $1685.16 (http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/crystal6tak/saved/tRH8TW) This is not to mention 800 series GPU may be coming soon and that may be a better gpu option but from 7970 to 290 is still a huge upgrade.
