And i7 and a 760... If you're gaming get an i5 and a 770.

Yeah, exactly, also he is only going to buy 8Gb of ram so he is not able to benefit from i7 that much :)

Even with regular tasks you don't benefit from the extra 4 threads that much.

You could buy 840evo instead of intel 730, so you could save some money without losing anything :)

I looked into thats and it is cheaper, I'm gonna go for it. Thx for the help

Get an i5 4690K instead, if your dad insist on i7 get a Xeon 1231v3 and tell him it's a rebranded i7 lol

My current rig for entertainment/gaming: i5 4570 3,2GHz; MSI B85M-E45; ZOTAC GTX760 AMP!; 8GB (2x4GB) by Kingston; Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm; Corsair 200R, Corsair VS650; Dell U2312HM, Samsung DVD R/W optical drive; CM Devastator; Corsair MM400 gaming pad

Lol if I wanted better performance I would get a i7 4790k, h100i, gtx780ti and a maximus vi formula.

But obviously don't have enough money from my own pocket

go with this ram and save 5 dollars to put somewhere else in the build. downgrade from a 730 to an 840 evo pro from samsung. use that money to put it into a video card upgrade

Firstly $5 is "totally gonna save me a lot"

Secondly I only trust GSkill and Corsair for ram

Kingston RAM is perfectly good, as is pretty much all other RAM...

Don't let him waste his money getting you an i7, show him some benchmarks and talk him out of it and get that 770.

that 5 bucks you can add to something down the road like put it the pot to buy upgraded cooling fans or something, secondly kingston is amazing ram ive used it on the budget builds ive ever done and it looks quite nice.  ive got 8 gig kit somewhere around here.

its $5 for free? my corsair ram is rubbish. they don't even make ram. they just put there name on it. most ram has a lifetime warranty, so why would you care what brand it is?

well corsair ram isn't rubbish. I have yet to get a bad module of it. i just use whatever ram is the cheapest that runs at what we need to have it run at and the amount of it we need. i had a dead stick of ddr2 memory and called up the company and they game me a replacement for free. (this was for an old computer and the gentelman didnt have the money to upgrade to ddr3.)
