Moving my setup from one house to another, can you guys and girls give me some tech moving tips?

So the title says it all really, I'm moving it all. Monitors, PC, desk etc. Any tips to keep my tech safe and in good condition would be greatly appreciated! 

 

I should mention that I already know to take the GPU out of my PC and maybe screw in the HDD but other than that I've got no clue

Thats a good question, im also moving my pc but im moving it upstairs so its not that far so should I take out my gpu?

Make sure everything is screwed down well, in your case.  Might want to remove you gpu just to be safe and put it back in it's box. If you had a big tower air cooler I'd reccomend removing that but, you don't. Once you get it to the destination go back and check and make sure everything still plugged in (had to d this because after moving my pc to my friends house it wouldn't boot due to a loose cable.

 

I'd lay it flat (ie: mother board parallel to the ground face up.

 

As for a monitor, maybe some foam wrap or something to protect the screen from scratches.

No need, keep it steady and don't bounce it around and everything will be fine.

Packaging the case back into the original packaging is the safest. Shipping full systems that way isn't always recommended depending on how good the original packaging is but is you're driving yourself it should be fine. Taking the GPU out would be a good idea too.

I wouldn't put a computer in a moving pick up, van, truck or whatever or much less ship it. However you're moving unless it's by plane, just carry it physically with you. If a plane is the only option I would disassemble everything I have packaging for and put it on that packaging.

when i had to move my pc over to my dad's house i just carried it in my lap during the car ride and when i had to put it down i put it down on a towel and put towels around it to act as a padding :P there really isnt that much caution to take. just done be an idiot i suppose

Take out the GPU, wrap some blankets around it, make sure it can't slide around. Do that and you'll be fine. (Coming from someone who has moved house more than enough times.)

Why is everyone on this forum so nervous about moving their towers? These systems are not as fragile as you seem to believe. I've moved several coast to coast across Canada in the back of a pickup and never had any issues.

Things are simple: wrap a towel/blanket around your monitor to avoid scratching the screen, pack all your cables/accessories in a box, and place your tower on it's side so that the video card is facing up, on a seat. Wrap case in a towel if you're worried about scratching it. Clearly everything inside should be secured one way or another. Move. Set back up as desired. Simple.

Never say it's not broken. Everything is broken. Why? Because everything needs MOAR POWA!

i suggest you just squeeze some newspaper inside you rig , so your parts inside case will not loose while moving. then put your case back to it's own boxes, and wrap with bubble wrapper.

I would recommend putting your things in the boxes and protective packaging it came in so nothing gets scratched. I've heard you can unbuild your PC and then rebuild it once you get to your destination, but I'd go against it as it would take too much time
