Computer Overheating

Go to solution Solved by natz1396,

One of my best friends is Australian so, no worries about explaining things. :P

If the cooler is mounted properly and it's still idling at 50, it does sound like something is wrong with that cooler. I mean, I have a single tower cooling my i5 with less than stellar fans with so-so static pressure and that cools better. I'm also in one of the hotter states and it's summer over here. The H80 should beat the pants off my Enermax Black Twister. Hmmm, when I apply thermal compound on a cpu, all I do is a pea drop of TIM in the middle and let gravity take its course. You may need to RMA the thing since something sounds defective here.

Yeah I'll give the cooler one last shot and If it still continues to give me bad temps then I'll try and get a replacement.

I think the forum has done everything to help me. I'm gonna end the thread here.

Thanks for the help!

Help I am experience 50 C on my CPU on idle. I'm not sure if this is normal or extremely bad.

Case: BitFenix Prodigy

CPU: i5 4670K

CPU Cooler: H80i push/pull as intake infront of the case

Case cooling: 2x 120mm intake fans and 1x 140mm outtake fan

I already reinstalled the CPU block twice and reapplied noctua thermal paste

Have you used another software to see if they are mesauring the same numbers? 50C is not extremely hot but, are you over clocked?

Little bit high i guess. But idle doesn't matter much .Show us load temps. My stays 40C at idle and reaches 48C at load(AMD 4800+, and it did, I don't have it anymore :)).

Speccy and Corsair Link seem to be agreeing with each other

I am only running at stock configurations at 3.4 GHz (3.8 Turbo)

For running stock clock, I would say your running hot. With my H90 and 4790 I run at about 30 at idle and didn't see over 60 with a 12 hour stress test.

Out of curiosity, what is your case airflow like? Also what are your ambient temps?

Ive got a buddy that has the exact same problem with his h80i and 4670k. I dont know what he did to resolve it but make sure what ever you have your pump plugged it to is set to high.

50 Degrees is not overly hot. You will often get this kind of temperature if you have or do any of the following:

  • Have a stock CPU cooling fan - (They manage the CPU but an alternative should be looked into)
  • You run games that push your CPU/GPU.
  • You have your tower case against a wall, this means the air will have access to less flow and fresh air
  • You are on the second floor - This contributes slightly as head rises meaning the hottest play in your house will be upstairs

Just as a general note though 50 Degrees will not damage your CPU. They often mark the threshold around 70 before it actually has any effect on the CPU.

All the best,

Rhys

Ive set my fan speed to normal but Im assuming that doesn't matter because I control my fans through software

Well then use your software to have them spin faster...

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

The pump works on the full power or no power basis. It is always at max speed.

I am not running a stock cooler? I posted that I am using a H80i

I also posted that these are idle temps

I do not have my tower against a wall

I am on the first floor and it is currently winter is Australia

50c is pretty high i guess. i idle at around 42c. with ambient temps of 29-32c on stock cooler.

My bad, what I would do next is to cross reference the reported temperature by using another program in case it is making any errors in judgement. Try Core Temps hand possibly reapply thermal paste to rule that out. I will always drop the torturous a few degrees even if it is okay. - This is what I would do it is your choice to try either of them :)

Try this, just for lolz, if you press on the cpu block, does the temperature drop?

No no no, don't undervolt

The temps you posted, 97c (!!!) under full load, at stock speed and 1.03v, should not be blamed on the voltage. There is nothing wrong with that voltage.

There is something else going wrong here.

How much thermal paste did you use?

Show us pictures of the application of the paste and also of the Water block attached to the CPU.

I had a problem with a waterblock once where the cpu'd get that hot. It was the water block not being attached correctly.

^This. Just press it down lightly with your fingers for several minutes and see whether there is any changes to the temps. You can always try reseat the cpu block.

try 1.165v

This is HIGHER than his current voltage

I'll repeat:

Yes, exactly. Nothing is wrong with the voltage or CPU itself.
