Wifi faster than LAN?

Hello guys! I just wanna know why is our wifi faster from our LAN? I'm using wifi right now and I get better speeds. While I use LAN, I get slower speeds comparitevely. Why is it like that? I've seen this happen in many places. Can anyone explain?

What do you mean? Are you talking about ping between you and another computer/server on LAN while playing games or something? Or like, download speeds on LAN?  :blink:

I really wish that we'd just make organic hardware already, that grows and adapts to the demands it needs to meet. That way, grannies' computers can be floppy sacks of organicness and the 12 year old Minecrafters will look like the guys that only do bicep curls, and the nerdy programmers will finally have justice, with their body-builder rigs that skipped leg day.

Sometimes bad ethernet drivers can cause this

This. If you're plugged in, it could be outdated drivers, or simply bad ones. Age of Empires 2 was impossible to LAN back when I was just using my laptop, because of horrible drivers giving me a ping of 400. Had to use wireless and Hamachi to LAN, until HP came out with drivers after my damn laptop melted. >.<

Regarding that sometimes,I have a cat 6 cable run in my house. Not very huge distance, just to 4 other rooms and my room, and the media room. Is that a problem?

Theoretically wifi should not be faster than a wired connection. Bad drivers or a cheap cable ( or a cable too long) will obviously lose to high quality wifi though.

Uhm. Open up Hamachi (unmanaged one), create a server, have people join that server (they do not need to be on the same network as you), and then use the IP from the Hamachi server as your LAN IP when the game/client, or whatever you're doing, asks for it. It's mainly used for playing LAN games when the person is not on the same network as you.

What ethernet cable are you using?

D-Link cat 6 ethernet cable.

Try using a different cable or updating drivers.

Cat5 is only up to 100Mbit. Cat6 is up to 1Gbit.

Cat5 is only up to 100Mbit. Cat6 is up to 1Gbit.

I don't need 1Gbit here. I think cat5 is good enough.
