Why does Linus "hate" micro usb?

Network
Go to solution Solved by antoainb,

I was just wondering why does Linus complain when there is a micro usb port involved.

Because they fail very often.

I've broken 3 micro USB cables and I've had to repair the micro USB connector on my Nexus 7 so you could say they are kinda flimsy.

All My devices have become obsolete long  before the mico usb breaks.   I don't have any of these experiences.

to me the micro USB is good... I think the mini USB connector is thiner and would snap easier... micro USB has a bigger connector so wouldnt that last longer? I prefer the micro USB

I have a few devices that use micro USB cables and never had a problem with them. But maybe I'm just the minority and got some good cables?

My family has had 6 different Android phones with micro USB within the last 4 or so years without any problems... The Lightning connector is still obviously superior in every way except for the proprietary part.

hum. I had a lot of cables break. I dont hate it, and its nice because its universal, but, its annoying. and my first mp3 player when i was young, i broke the port the first time i had to charge it. Yeah i was young, but At that time, i had my own computer and i could move and set it up anywhere by myself, so i doubt it was a lack of ability
