G750JZ shipped with Win 7?

TheAddiction2

Does anyone know of a place I could buy a G750JZ, with Windows 7, that isn't super marked up? I've read that it's a pain to "downgrade" from 8.1 to 7 on that family of notebooks. I'd also love to hear some suggestions of similarly targeted notebooks, that place horsepower above things like portability or battery life, and don't rip you off on price-performance *cough* Alienware *cough*.

Win 8.1 is better in all ways than win 7.

A rather subjective matter. I personally prefer Win 7's UI, and am more than willing to drop the small performance gains and USB 3.0 speeds I get with it.

You could always get Windows 8 and get a free program that brings back the start menu. It'll feel just like Windows 7.

Besides, a Windows update that's coming in a few months is going to bring back the Start Menu

Care to back up your statement?

Which one? That I don't like Win 8.1 or that the guide works also for the JZ?

Why not just get an application to make it look like Windows 7?  Problem solved.  Plus, 8.1 Update 1 will give you the opportunity to bring the start menu back.

To your first question, I've checked ProStar, Power Notebooks, Ava Direct, and Xotic PC, and all of them charge extra for Windows 7 on the Asus G750, so no luck there, sorry. :(

The only place I remember seeing Windows 7 at no extra cost is Digital Storm, but they only resell Sager laptops. However, if you're looking for other gaming laptops that prioritize power over being ultra thin/portable, Sager is a very good choice. They're less expensive for the hardware compared to Asus, but the build quality is a teensy bit less, but still very decent.

Unfortunately, the only 17 inch Sager models Digital Storm resells is the one that's a bit more 'gaming stylized'. Personally, I think the design on the touch pad looks like a tramp stamp, but if you don't mind it, they're a good place to buy from. If you prefer something that looks more business like, you could buy the Sager NP9377-S or the Sager NP8278-S(by default this one comes with a 870M, but you can select the option for the 880M)

Keep in mind that these(from Xotic PC) do not come with an operating system by default, but you can select Windows 7 or Windows 8. However, Windows 7 is like $15 more expensive.

I'm tired so I'll make it short: If an OS isn't usable unless I install third party software (which costs money), then that OS is crap. And yes I do own 8.1 and tried it on Latops as well as on Desktop computers. 8.1 vanilla is the least intuitive OS I know of.  But wait: I can install a programm to make it look like Win7. But why the hell should I then install Win8.1 in the first place? The third party start menu also needs resources and adds to the boot time.
