Why does cats  get really high/energetic at night sometimes?

there are few stray cats i have been feeding for months or almost a year and they seems to do that sometimes and stare at a wall,like something is there or something and this only happens at night

Can anybody please tell me why do they do that?

It's rare to find pussy cats that aren't more active during the night when compared to the day, in fact, the aforementioned pussy in either sleeping or in a pseudo sleep state for ~18 hours a day, so it's only natural for it to want to be really active for the remaining hours

My cat is constantly sleeping i think we broke it because we don't let it out at night
