I want to use my headphones for multiple audio sources.

Matt_TPrice

I want to be able to use my headphones for my PC and my Xbone.

I will have to convert the optical audio output with a converter to analog. So what device do I need to have 2 outputs for 1 set of headphones.

You should explain to him how he'd hook that up, because if he's going from PC to converter, and xbox to converter, he'd need one of these if he's using two different converters : http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-Male-Female-inch/dp/B000I98ZYG/ref=pd_sim_e_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=0YW4HVJ5XJ0BV0SY85C1

@Matt_TPrice can you post a link to the converter you'll be using?

You have the same solution only I've made it more complicated.

then you need an RCA to 3.5mm cable (for the xbox), a 3.5mm male/male cable (PC) and the cable I linked to (http://www.amazon.com/Stereo-1-Female-2-Females-Splitter-Changer/dp/B0009JFF7U). Plug the headphones in the single end and XB and PC in the other 2.

Guys you can't just put two of them together and have it work. If they're playing audio at the same time then you need a mixer.

@Matt_TPrice The easiest way is to use a Fiio D3 DAC and put the input to your line in 3.5mm socket on your computer and plug your headphones into your computer. This might be too soft though since you do not have an amp after the dac. If you find it not loud enough, get a FiiO E6. I have heard this has some lag so if you need a no delay solution, then you will have to use a mixer. Something like this

http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-502-XENYX502-5-Channel-Mixer/dp/B000J5UEGQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1403629688&sr=1-2

and plug that dac/amp from the xbox as well as your pc audio into that. Then plug your headphones into the mixer.

I'm guessing that when he's on his Xbox he's not using his PC and therefore the PC is muted and vice versa.

But you can just plug your headphones into whichever device he's using? OP please clarify.

Maybe he wants to leave them plugged in and not worry which device it's plugged in

That's not usually something you have to make a post about though. And he said 2 outputs for 1 headphone which makes me thing the outputs are playing at the same time. Either way the OP needs to clarify.

I think you mean 2 INPUTs for 1 set of headphones.

There's a couple of ways to go about it:

  1. Method 1 - Send xbone audio to computer "MIC IN", and computer sends mixed audio (use windows options to "listen to device") to your headphone/speakers.  I do that with my cell phone connected to my computer so I can take call and have good audio.
  2. Method 2 - a mixer or audio switcher device.  I use my Fiio e17 as a switcher (optical , usb, analog in)... but  I don't know your budget.

To clarify: I want to be able to hear audio from my xbox and PC at the same time. So I will be buying a converter for the xbox one and a mixer.

Thank you everyone for your wonderful input!
