A simple guide when posting news.

  • Use a VERY descriptive title but preferably use the sources title
  • Quote the essential paragraph of the story BUT NOT the entire article
  • Cite the author and link back to the full story
  • There is no need to add "Read this" or any other relatively useless commentary
  • DO cite a source in the title

Definition: According to Princeton's Wordnet, news is defined as "information about recent and important events".

Things that might fall into this category are:

  • An announcement about a new game
  • Intel/AMD's latest roadmap
  • A new record overclock.

These are all things that either were not heard of before, elaborate on or confirm things we thought might happen, or are otherwise important for an overclocker to know.

Things that might not be considered news:

  • Anything that is not from a reputable source (reputable sources being any of the plethora of News/Review sites out there, a company rep, official email, etc)
  • Retailer sourcing
  • Anything relating to your personal hardware. This includes, but is not limited to, unsubstantiated rumors, your personal experience with something, information from a source that cannot be confirmed, etc.
  • Video Game Reviews

A good question to ask yourself is "If somebody else told me this and then told me the source, could I reasonably believe it?" If the answer is no, this is probably because your source is not trustworthy enough for the type of material they are reporting.

I think we can all appreciate your wanting to help the forum, but like others have mentioned, the sticky about news post guidelines already exists, and it's probably a little more visible to people than a topic that will shift up and down the front page before falling into the obscure depths of Page 2... ;)

From the guidelines posted there:

Must have some original input along with the news story from the member on why it is news to them and/or the forum.

And your most recent post in the Tech News/Reviews subforum contains absolutely nothing of substance. It is a mere one-line quote, an image, and the source.

Go figure, you edited it before I finished typing this. With a whopping 6-word statement with nothing to back the statement up.

If you went to the artical you would see that there isn't really much stuff there. 6 words, you need to practice on your counting mate ;) If you dont like my suggestion then make the news thread your own way. I was just trying to make this forum better :)

If you don't even know how to use it, you probably shouldn't be trying to help.

I did it correctly.

This is the whole thread

According to the latest information in the hands, Intel X99 chip and Haswell-E processors will be determined on September 14 the ban.

Published after confirmation, present throughout the Haswell-E platform has been broadly confirmed.

Intel X99 chip will be paired with DDR4 memory is not the same as on the pin position, this also means that we are using DDR3 past can no longer use, you need to re-invest.

As part of the processor, the same as with Ivy Bridge-E, Intel for different price range, will launch a total of three products, namely the Core i7-5960X (20MB Cache, the highest 3.50GHz), Core i7-5930K (15MB Cache, the highest 3.70 GHz) and Core i7-5820K (15MB Cahce, 3.60GHz) and other processors.

Price, in addition to Core i7-5820K will be too expensive, the other two processors with Ivy Bridge-E will be little difference.

I quoted

According to the latest information in the hands, Intel X99 chip and Haswell-E processors will be determined on September 14 the ban.

and

in addition to Core i7-5820K will be too expensive,

So that simple more then 10% of the news section. So in other words I did use it correctly. Keep your crying some where else please :) This isnt even mandatory. It a guide on making a good news thread. If you cant post anything good then dont post at all. I'm trying to contribute with the LTT community. Posting news everyday :)

I believe this can be ignored when it comes to important updates for things, like the Minecraft Server Monitization. Many people surf LTT when at work, so even though they have access to LTT, they may not have access to Mojang, for example. Of course this is for a case-by-case basis, but still :P

Either way whatever happens like glad  that you are trying to help, people get mad on this forum easily these days, the community is sadly a lot more heated. A rule i try to stick by is try to add my opinion, try to add a picture if possible, and of course relevant information, my last one isnt really a rule but just advice, three lines then picture, you can get a lot more information into the skulls of people in bitesize chunks, too many people have short attention spans so i have to accommodate. Also whatever happens dont get angry in a post, ive learned the issues that causes the hard way, take it from me, ive got at least 3000 news articles on this forum now, linus even said one of my posts was the best post he had ever seen.

Things that might fall into this category are:

  • An announcement about a new game

Misinformation. This forum is only for tech news. So unless the game in question has a strong link to technology (I.E. a new engine pushing the boundaries, benchmarks on new graphics cards, or something else about it that is newsworthy has something to do with tech) the post does not belong here, but in console/ PC gaming subforums.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

It says "Things that might fall into this category are:" so to make it simple that that could fall in that category, its just a few example. Stop trying to look for the wrong but instead do something positive.
