What to Buy?

Hello Guys

 

Im really interested in buying my first Ship in Star Citizen.

But I'm really confused because there is an Avenger that costs 60USD and one that costs 75USD now whats the diffrence between those two?

at the moment in game there is no difference as you get a base ship to use in arena commander

There are no different Avenger versions.

The price differences you see is that you can buy the ship only for $60 and a game package (which includes starting money, insurance, the game itself, beta access) for $75.

 

If you don't have a ship yet, get the game package, otherwise you will have nothing.

Avenger seems like a great starter ship. I myself first got the 325a but I was considering the avenger at that time too. I think it has a bigger engine than the 300 series (and looks tougher)

The Avenger may have a bigger engine and a bigger cargo space, but the 325a has more manoeuvring thrusters and better weapons. It is all about what you want.

The avenger is a great ship, I've got one now. But with the Xian scout being put up tomorrow, depending on the price I'll melt my avenger for that.

Oh, thanks. I didn't know that. I saw the class 5 (tier 3?) nose turret on the Avenger, but I thought it was a tractor beam. Now I am curious of what capabilities the ship really has. I might get one, is seems to be more and more compelling

It is class 3 (gimbaled) and size 5

 

Nothing to scoff at to be sure. I expect two avengers flying side by side giving a Constellation or Retaliator pilot a bit of a cold sweat

 

Problem is going to be balance. The two wing-mounted guns are puny size 1s, so if you load the nose with an energy weapon you will struggle to bring down shields and you'll also have a serious problem with the power plant producing enough juice for sustained fire, while if you use a mass driver in the nose you'll struggle once the shields are down, and have a huge problem with heat dissipation for sustained fire.

 

It's going to be a ship for teamwork, and/or very clever piloting.

I'm thinking for vs larger ships it'll do fine if it uses energy weapons for the shield and missles for the hull

That's true, problem is the only way to get missiles on it is to drop one or both fuel extension tanks, and if you drop both I imagine it will only be able to operate off a capital ship. Also, missiles are going to be valuable so you don't want to base your combat strategy on using them, they'll be for 'oh shit' moments.

Or have a full cargo of missiles on a ship with an auto loader and then

 

- warp in

- kill everybody

- warp out

- have a beer

I own the Avenger and I say you should get it. It is a great ship!
