A Rant About PWM (in general) & Z97 MBs

4.3 Thread Necroing

Thread necroing consists of reviving a previously resolved, settled, or "dead" thread after a prolonged period of time by the OP with the intention of bumping the thread to the top of the board. Threads with an activity gap of 1 month or greater that are brought back to the front page is considered "thread necroing". A shorter duration may be considered when dealing with situations like previously resolved threads being reposted or simply for the purpose of bumping it to the front page. Build logs are exempt from this rule.

You really can't handle being wrong.

God forbid I help someone by breaking the CoC.  Just like I did when I posted on the Load-Line Calibration Thread that was over a year old with 200,000 views.  Don't mind me, just posting my personal experience with something that a lot of other people are having problems with on a heavily trafficked thread.

FYI - I do not consider this thread necro in this situation - this is not the OP or someone else posting to boost a thread. He added valuable data to a conversation.

I checked my MSI motherboard manual and it specify that the fourth pin is not connected.... is this issue exclusive to Asus or other manufacturer is following suit?

Btw, if you think this is necroing just report it to the mod and let them take actions then? I dont call a continued discussion with something to useful to add into discussion even after years the thread is opened as necroing... this isnt a matter of bumping thread but to add more into the discussion. But if mod think that is necroing too then I dont mind to oblige...

I can't comment on the MSI motherboard, because each motherboard is different, especially cross-company. While doing my research, I did find that even some of the higher end RoG boards aren't true PWM, so this sounds like a really premium feature. Look at your motherboard manual, find the page that shows the different fan headers.  On Asus motherboards, the first pin for the CPU/OPT reads: PWM Function, while the 1st pin for the chassis fans reads: +5v.  If it reads +5v, it is not true PWM, and you are limited to 40-100% control range.
