Of course it exists, its just not plausible to be used with todays hardware.

Of course it does, even 4k has existed for years, but until now it was only used in heavily professional environments such as the cinema industry because of its price. Now 4k has become available to "normal" consumers and prosumers, however 8k is still exclusive to hollywood and such.

People are downsampling to get those screenshots.

 

There isn't a rig today that can run that at a playable FPS though.

 

If Nvidia GRID was able to run a single game with all of those GPU's, then maybe... just maybe..

Just to put it into perspective how badly today's hardware would handle 8K:

8K is 16 times harder to drive than 1080p. That's 16 times harder to drive than 1080p. So if you are getting 64fps in a game at 1080p, you would get 4fps at 8K.
