yeah, there's a temperature at which it locks up, I believe it is somewhere around -100°C, I'd have to check the exact numbers though.

nevermind

Depends on the core, architecture, material used, and the silicon lottery

It's known as the cold bug and at that point the core won't work. However, if you're at the point where that matters, you're not concerned with the day to day running of the core, just getting that CPU-Z validation screenshot

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - CPU Cooler: Deepcool Castle 240EX - Motherboard: MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

RAM: 2 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RBG 3200MHz - GPU: MSI RTX 3080 GAMING X TRIO

I guess we can all agree that 0K is probably the temperature at which everything stops working, no matter what type of hardware you have :D

Not really, though things could get unpredictable at really low temps, as materials might become too conductive etc.

It is impossible to reach that temperature though haha

laser cooling has gotten pretty close though, whithin a few billionths of a kelvin. its pretty interesting when you think about it, the coldest temperature ever to be reached in our universe has been in some MIT lab on earth.

You read a lot about overheating CPUs etc but not much about it running ridiculously cold. ATM my cpu is anywhere from 1° to 20° with lightish use. Can it get to cold where it wont run?

off topic: how did it get to 1-20 deg? is this farenheit or degrees c?

Edit: @SpyRosL didn't see your post as I posted

I am pretty sure that at the point of absolute zero it would not work however, I am certain that even in a specialist environment controlled by scientists this is not possible.

So I spelt something wrong in my post... I don't care I don't read through what I write and I type very quickly.

Intel 3770k stock, MSI Z77A-GD65, MSI GTX 760, Corsair Vengence DDR3 1600Mhz 16Gb, Corsair RM 550W, Samsung 830 256Gb, some random hdds.

You know how your pc goes off, if it is too hot. I wounder if there is a emergency off function if it gets too cold.
