Msi r9 290 bad temps, should i return it?

Definitely not normal

Either you have some really bad airflow or the card is faulty

I'd say RMA

the gpu temp went up to 93*C while playing Battlefield 4, at the same time the MB temp went up to 61*C, above allowed temps

i know it's summer and it's like 30 *C but i can't feel like this temp is way to high for me atm; i'm thinking about giving up on upgrading my gpu until water cooling is viable

i have 5 case fans all runing on turbo.

What version of the card is it? Gaming? Lightning? Reference?

If it's a reference card and its getting to 93 C that's normal. If you want lower temps than that on a reference card, make your own fan profile.

is this a reference card? if so, expect high temperatures cause reference AMD cards tend to get super hot

MSI does not do reference R9 290's.

do you clear the air out of your case? good airflow in your case to feed your gpu is very important or it will  be trying to cool itself using 80C air..

I have not exceeded 75c yet with the Sapphire Tri-X, it would seem either your cooling terrible (case airflow) or the card's cooler is not seated correctly.

I would say so. A lot of benchmarks are done in cooler places than Italy.
