holding up PUMP + RESEVOIR with magnetic tape

Go to solution Solved by rjbarker,

Personally I wouldnt put magnets anywhere near my sensitive Electronic within my case....thats just my opinion....with that being said you'd be better off with Industrial Velcro....better yet...get out the drill and go to home depot and pick up some 6/32 machine bolts, rubber washers and nuts...mount it properly ;)

I hope this dose not sound stupid

I have a cooler master storm stryker case http://gaming.coolermaster.com/en/products/cases/stryker/ and was wondering what do you think of holding up PUMP + RESEVOIR - EK Water Blocks EK-D5 Vario X-RES 140 http://www.ekwb.com/shop/pumps-and-accessories/pumps/ek-d5-series-pump/ek-d5-vario-x-res-140-incl-pump.html with magnetic tape or pad?

I was going to drill holes in my hard drive cage http://www.cmstore-usa.com/cm-storm-trooper-hdd-cage/ and was hoping for another way, I don't really want to drill anywhere in my case (I will if there is no other option) and i think zip ties dont look very nice.

In that hard drive bay i have 2 x ssd's and 1 x 3.5 hdd...

Would it be safe to use magnetic tape or pads on the outer side of the cage? while my hard drive have plastic trays inside the cage http://www.cmstore-usa.com/trooper-hdd-tray-oem-packaging/

Would the pads or tape hold the pump+res ? im not sure how much the D5 Vario and ek res + water weigh?

Has anybody tried this before?

I'd just use clear hot glue.

How to use/remove:

It's a different application, but it will work nonetheless.

You would need some pretty strong magnets to hold it up securely. And having strong magnets on the side of a drive cage doesn't sound like a good idea.

You could try using something like EK's uni holder to mount the pump/res to the cage, or maybe a UN mount. You could also try and create something out of aluminium if you're feeling creative.

Why not Velcro?

I held my pump to the bottom of the case in place with magnetic pads, but they are stuck to the foam that the pump is mounted to. Strong magnets attached directly to the pump would likely interfere with the pump itself as well as the hard drives with both use moving electromagnetic parts.

Magnetic tape is not very strong, it will not hold it up. Use double sided foam tape, it is the best option because it will almost never come off, and it dampens vibration. If you want a less permanent option use velcro tape, which also will dampen the vibrations.

I have bought Velcro industrial strength tape ill see how good that is. the velcro i have in my system falls of all the time, so ill replace that and see how that holds up.

i know it sounds stupid using magnetic tape, was just a idea i was curious about.. I just wanted to see if anybody had luck using it. Thank you for your comments =)

If the velcro dont work ill get the drill out, i think the res comes with the uni holder, im still going have to drill holes using that holder.

Thanks

There is a type of Industrial Velcro out there that utilizes "hard plastic" vs "fibrous material".....we use it on our boats n ships to keep things like TV's and Microwave from sliding off of counter tops in heavy weather.....stuff is awesome and would be great!!!

The "Industrial " stuff at Home Depot is the Fibrous Material stuff and no where near is as strong....
