Should 'You' wait?

Well, 'You' should not. If you are already building the PC in a few weeks, then I'd say just go for it. You can't really rely on a product that hasn't been released or benchmarked yet. Honestly though, Maxwell will just be more of a power-savings generation compared to Kepler.

Get two R9 290s for the 3440x1440. 3GB is not enough for widescreen gaming. PowerColor PCS+ cards are cheap and the best AMD cards

I'm pretty sure here two 290s comes to only a little more than a single 780ti (could be wrong on that). If so I'd consider the two 290s instead.

At any rate, that you're buying the 34UM95 shows you've got plenty to spend on stuff :P

3GB vRAM is enough for 5760x1080 (3x 1080p panels) so I'd think it's enough (although I'd recommend amd in this case). Just because Powercolor arguably make the best 290/290x does not mean they make the best AMD cards. Also, different cards are better in different ways (some might be optimized for quiet performance where as others are for OC'ing like mad and others are a compromise between both); how can you define the best when people want different things from their cards?

Every thread I go on you say something stupid.

@OP You could be waiting for a while if you wait for Maxwell. Originally I was waiting for Maxwell before my upgrade but I just couldn't hold out xD. Just buy the card you want now sell it and buy a new card next gen as hopefully when next gen comes out they can handle HD+ resolutions much better than they currently can.

I'd build your system now. Honestly though, I'd get two 290's or something similar, I'm going to be running a 3440x1440 display soon and I have two 290X Lightnings :)

There is absolutely no way that 3GB is enough for surround 1080p. regular 1080p games are taking up 3GB! Surround needs more.

The 1GB per 1080p monitor was a pretty good rule to go by for previous games, but going forward that will probably change

Yeah, I agree, i can see down the road 3Gb not being enough for sure.

..Again garbage posts. You can game at 60+ fps for most games with 3gb vram (tri monitor 1080p and below).

Oh yeah, I know :P. If it was me personally I would go for 4GB AMD cards (like I have :D) but he said 3GB isn't enough and it is so I just had to say so.

Good luck then

the gtx 780 Ti dips down to 2FPS in 4k because of vram

tri 1080 is 3/4 of 4k so it will still most likely be a issue now and will definitely be an issue in a game like star citizen

I updated my post one minute before you posted so you seem to think I think 4k gaming on sli 780 ti's is viable and I do not.

Star Citizen isn't out yet (alpha), I'm not talking about future proofing the graphics cards. I'm talking about todays performance. And before you say anything (like Watch dogs), I said most games not all games. Console AAA ports are going to be vRAM killers so in the near future yes, you can expect 3GB of vRAM to not be enough but again, today it is enough.

Coming from someone that had 5760x1080, the only game that got close to 3gb in my steam library was crysis 3 completely maxed out, and it only used 2.9-3 gb.  Bf4 used 2.4-2.7, bf3 used 2.25.
