Does ubiquity have a mesh network system that you dont need to buy a controller for? Can you just buy 2 aps and call it a day or do u have to setup and entire system?

U can easily buy a tp link or google mesh but ubiquity seems to want u to buy a dream machine to control everything?

Thats because TPLink and Google are for consumers. Ubiquity is for prosumers and small/medium business.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

You dont need that. If you do want a ubiquiti controller the express 7 is the cheapest way in AND its also an ap too!

The only thing you need is to install ubiquiti's ubiquiti os server (just a program), config the aps once and thats it.

Ubiquiti is consumer-business with most of their stuff, the tp link and google you are looking at is aimed at consumer only. Its why when you do go ubiquiti its at least there working great for the next decade as well its supposed to do that in a proffesional enviroment

Yes. You can configure them with the app from your PC, then close the app / turn off the PC etc. once configured they will operate without the app.

You still need something to act as a router. I use a PC running OPNsense (a regular router would work too obviously). The AP are connected to a POE switch.

How much space do you need to cover?

The Unifi Express and Dream Router are all in one Gateway/Controller/Switch/AP products. If necessary you could add additional APs later.
