The CPU fan header is for the CPU. Is controls CPU fan speed based on the CPU temperature. Don't plug a case fan into it.

I am asking if I should connect the ARCTIC F12 PWM in a chain to the CPU fan which is connected to the CPU_FAN header.

I thought my first reply was fairly straightforward too, to be fair.

"PWM Sharing Technology (PST) Lowers Noise

If you want to improve the cooling efficiency of your computer you get several case fans working in parallel (since it takes ten fans to double the noise level). But what does it help if they don't work together? The PST assures that all of your fans listen to one control signal. E.g. you share the CPU Cooler's PWM signal and assure that your case fans stand down at low load and spin up whenever necessary."

If you already had an answer, why didn't you go with it? Weird to come here and ask what is essentially a bait question.

"Ha-HA! This thing I already know says different! PRANKED!"

But really, still no. I would not connect the case fan to the CPU header. I would connect it to a sys fan header, like you typically do. That's still my advice.

cpu fan goes to the cpu fan header, case fan goes to the case fan (or sys fan, depending on used verbage) header. that's the "intended" way of doing it, but if you want to do different you do you.. just dont expect people to give you the answer you want.

I like custom fan curves, go with system fan and set a custom curve if you can.

I am replacing a noisy fan that came with a new case with an ARCTIC F12 PWM. I previously had the fan connected to the SYS_FAN1 header, however I see that I can connect the ARCTIC F12 PWM together with the CPU fan on the CPU_FAN header. Which one should I choose?

CPU_FAN is controlled by CPU temperatures.

SYS_FAN header is controllled by System (Motherboard) temperatures.

New motherboards allow you to changed this in BIOS so you can for example set SYS_FAN based on CPU temps. However if you dont plug CPU_FAN header you will get warning during boot. You can connect case fan to CPU_FAN just keep in mind that speed (PWM signal) will be based on CPU temperature.

There is no practical difference between these headers. Just dont connect more than 3 fans into one header.
