ChromeOS

Go to solution Solved by dkoudijs,

Its a cost thing. Operational, capital, replacement costs are pretty large for an educational facility.

The labour savings on the chormebooks is quite large. You can deploy a chormebook almost from the factory. I mean in some cases really from the factory.

As the student logs in, and the profile is downloaded from google for the student.

So the IT department simply has to have the setup all done in the management software. Software is installed from the store automatically and files are synced across to the cloud. So the school board now can use a smaller IT team to manage many devices.

Saying this I have started to see school boards still use chromebooks, but use office 365 as the alternative to google suite. Overall costs are lower with office 365 vs. gsuite when you calculate in the total cost. This may change back and forth depending on how much Google or Microsoft wants to work long term and offer discounts.

No, it’s mostly because ChromeOS can be very locked-down and it’s easy to remotely manage. Also, Chromebooks can be very inexpensive.

schools want money from sponsoring Google?

No, it's because schools generally don't have money to spend on hardware and software and these devices tend to be cheap. It's also because these devices can be more easily locked down so kids don't do things with them during class they're not supposed to.

Schools love Chromebooks because they're cheap and fleets of them can be centrally managed.

Kids are destructive little demons, so why give them an expensive laptop to wreck when a cheap laptop can do their schoolwork just as well?

Are the Chromebooks used in schools only because schools want money from sponsoring Google?

It's due to cost. If schools or parents are providing the machines they are CHEAP. It means if they break it's not a huge deal to replace them. As you can get Chromebooks for as little as $129 from what I have seen. Id imagine that they use Google's office suite. I can tell you when I was in school many many many years ago we had to use MS office. Some of us were not rich enough to afford MS office.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

It's to insure Google starts datamining them as early as possible, right after the storks deliver them

Nah, they only get Chromebooks around school age. Those rugged "educational" Android tablets for kids are the real gateway drugs to data mining complacency.

Electronic learning is only truly offline with devices like this:
