Use Disk Management to check what partitions are on the USB storage drive.

If you're lucky they just don't have a drive letter and you can give them one and access the content. Otherwise, the drive could be formatted as some Linux file system that can't be read in Windows.

Note that even if you can access the files, they may be encrypted on the drive.

Does it show up on the TV?

When you put it in a PC, does it show up in the bios?

deciphering what your say here. im seeing windows on your comp does see the drive but you cant access it?

what external hard drive is it even?

what tv did you connect it to?

did you even try it on a pc first?

did you straight away connect it to tv and let the tv do anything to the drive?

these are all need to know things when you want help. we cant or dont want to just guess on minimal stuff

but if this is the case the drives partition is not a windows partition. fat32 or ntfs. thats why it wont see it right to access.
see if your able to format the drive in disk management. if still cant, then something is up with the drive itself. or try it on a mac or linux system. it may be partitioned for one of those

i guess there are no true experts about.. If they can't even find a solution to a basic problem maybe all the forums are just for show.  Oi linus do your job!

What an incredibly thoughtless and rude way to view this place.

Linus isn't duty bound to support your random problem that you've not provided any screenshots of, or extra context about what exactly you're trying to do, and neither is anyone else here.

If it's such a "Basic problem" according to you, what does that say about your own abilities?

What do you think Linus' job is? Last I check he was CEO (or CVO) of a media company, not a tech support minion.

well it's a bit redundant saying that since I was asking on a tech forum.. what's a "random problem"? it's not rocket science what i'm asking so stop wasting people's time by pretending you have solutions.

You were given the answer/next step right here ^^^^^^^^^

Did you bother to try the above suggestion?

I also laugh at folks who think Linus frequents these forums or is some tech god, he isn't. He literally fell into the role he has doing basically infomercials for products. From there LMG grew, but he has no formal education in IT.

Not trying to be dick or bag on Linus, but a lot of people on these forums have much more experience, education and hands-on knowledge than Linus does.

If you doubt me, go read his bio.

So whining about people trying to help you on this forum and asking for Linus's help over others only indicates your ignorance.

My TV used XFS. Boot a live linux distro and see what FS it is in gnome-disks or gparted, install the relevant tools according to that if not built in and you should be able to access the files.

But assuming that's for recorded TV programmes the files will likely be encrypted and unreadable. Some old TVs had hacks that allowed to disable encryption but that typically needed to be done in advance.
