5080 vs 5090

see looking at charts like this makes me sway towards the 5090 as right now PM for 2 years I can get one for around ~£100 (which isnt that bad in my eyes and what I have paid for a phone in the past)

right now in the UK the cheapest 5080 is £984.98. 5090 £1999.99 and 5070ti £669.98. Prices seem to be similar to US that be it about ~20 in currency.

Would the 5090 get a super version?

As I have seen with leaks and rumors, the 5090 is not expected to get a Super version.

Just like the 4090.

There is a reason there was such a gap between the 5080 and 5090 though, they knew they would release a 5080 Super at some point.

Hi all

Is the difference between the 5080 and 5090 warrented at all?

I am looking to finally upgrade my GPU from a 2080s which in no way is that old but it is struggling in newer games. I can barely reach 60fps on some titles at full resolution and I am hard crutching on the likes of FSR and DLSS to reach that 60+ mark. I do play at 1440p and have recently started playing at 1080p sometimes but its so draining having to adjust settings to just comfortably play games.

I am thinking of getting a new GPU on finance as I can afford it and have a steady enough job but getting a 5090...idk if its needed, if that much power is needed. I do play modern titles like Mafia and Battlefield. I like playing on high settings and dont ever play at 4K as I dont have a 4K monitor (well I do but its my secondary monitor and only used for Discord). Maybe some replies can help me decide?

Im not looking for people to tell me not to get it on finance I am comfortable doing that and will only be paying for it for 2 years anyway which is similar to a phone contract.

Here is a 17 game average at 1440 with high/ultra settings used.

You decide if the performance gained is worth the extra price.

Remember that your CPU matters quite a bit at 1440p with a 5090 so if you are running an older CPU, consider upgrading.

Thanks for the reply.

I did a heavy upgrade 2 years ago from an i5 8600k to a Ryzen 9 7900x. did a whole system upgrade just not my GPU as at the time it was still fresh.

The issue in most markets is that the 5080 doesn't make sense compared to the 5070 Ti. The difference there is only 15% or so, but the price difference is often 40% or more.

So really, if you care about value at all, you should be weighing between the 5070 Ti and 5090, and ignoring the 5080. The 5090 at least is the fastest card, is meaningfully faster than the 5080, and has 32GB of VRAM, even if it is stupidly expensive.

The 7900x is a decent CPU and will be fine at 1440p with a 5090.

Here is another 4 game average with CPU scaling at 1440p with a 5090, 5080, 9070 and 9060 XT.

There is no 7900x here but a 7600x is basically the same performance in gaming.

Again, no one can decide for you. The 5090 is a beast but is the price premium worth it?

MicroCenter has dropped the price on the 5080 by quite a bit!  I helped a friend with a new system yesterday and MicroCenter had several decent 5080 models for 999 USD.

2 weeks ago the cheapest 5080 was still 1399.

Of course, the 5070 Ti dropped in price as well so the difference in price is still 35-40%.

This is in expectations of the Super cards coming soon.

AI Overview

While it's not guaranteed, a "Super" version of the RTX 5090 is possible, but not as likely as with other cards in the series. If it is released, it would likely feature a fully unlocked die with similar clock speeds and potentially more VRAM, but it might not be a significant performance jump over the standard 5090.

From all I've read, it's unlikely, but not to be ruled out.

Pax vobiscum

There have been no rumors of a 5090 Super. The 90 class has never actually gotten a Super card. The closest one is the 3090 Ti.

I wouldn't expect one to happen. Nvidia already hardly wants to sell the 5090 since they are using the same silicon for their $6000+ AI cards.

Its a good card, crazy upgrade over your 2080S and you will enjoy it for a long time 🙂 '

Its a lot of money but some people spend this much on a golf club or a damn handbag.

I think you will get decent fun per dollar per hour out of it 🙂

I went from a 960 to a 2080s shortly before the 30 series came out and I've been waiting for a huge upgrade and as I say, I can afford it on Finance but just not outright defo gonna be enjoying the card for some time. I already have a 1200w PSU for this moment (2025 version so it has the HPV12V+LGTBQ+ connector)

Go for it! 🙂  I was going to get a 5090 as well but it was just not enough upgrade over my overclocked 4080.

I will definitely get a 6090.

5090 is a mad jump over the 2080s.

Oh, I’m wondering then if I picked the right time to buy my 5070ti. Do you think  that the price will drop much more coming months? I bought mine for 770€ 3 days ago, and still have a month the return it if I need to. I honestly don’t think I’ll get a much better deal, but then again I didn’t know super cards would come out.

Main machine:  Ryzen 9 9950x3D - Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070ti OC 16GB  - Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 - 64GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 - Seasonic FOCUS GX-1000 ATX3.1 - Lancool 207 digital - Artic liquid freezer III Pro - 2 x 27" AOC Q27G4X - WD SN850X 2TB - 2 x WD SN770 2TB

Probably not, but never say never. We've never seen a Super variant of a 90-class card, and we saw the Ti once (3090 Ti) but that was moreso the exception to the rule. We didn't even get a 4080 Ti last gen, only a Super, and no variant for the 4090.

5090 ain't worth it as the price to performance scale isn't linear. 5080 is barely worth it.

Yep, this is why I wound up just going for the 5070 Ti. I also got it less than MSRP so that helped decide for me too

EditWell that was short lived, I had the opportunity to get the 5090 for MSRP and I made the completely responsible decision to do it. As I had a 3090 previously this upgrade seemed more logical. The 5070 Ti will go into my secondary rig.
