Seeing how amd is releasing apu's on the edge of space i don't have hope.

Hi guys, I remember hearing somewhere that AMD's next processors will be on the FM2+ socket, and I would like to know if this is true or not.

yes based on their roadmap

 

AMD are only releasing only FM2+ APUs, FX is almost or really dead

 

in fact they just released the Kaveri APU for laptops

Op no one really knows yet they were suppose to be going to fm2+ then there was talks about a new performance series that was going to be like am4 and now that has just disappeared amd hasnt released anything special in a pretty long time.

FM2+ is AMD's new platform from now on. AM3+ is over and done with. Seriously. FM2+ is one of AMD's only sockets that supports m-ITX, a platform growing more popular lately.

Well rumor is AMD is going back to SMT (Simultaneous multi threading), which means the FPU and other thing is no longer shared between cores, which in multi threaded tasks takes efficiency from about 80% back up to around 100, this could be potentialy interesting as if they release an 8 core (not as likely) it will have a 20% boost and then if they add 15% IPC then we could see 8 cores 30-40% faster than their current models.

AMDs current module approach is more useful in servers. With the die space saved by sharing resources and stuffing as many integer cores as possible for data base operations like mySQL.

The interesting thing is this could put 6 cores competitive with i5. The reason we won't be likely to see 8 cores is because SMT requires more die space per core driving up manufacturing costs.

This is rumored for 2015. I highly doubt it will be in any existing socket. One interesting thing is TDP as AMD achieved a lot with 35W in their new FX-7600P mobile (Fully functional A10 7850K with some clock reductions). This could mean much lower TDPs for AMD.

Good points.

 

But if they do die shrink down to 28nm or even 22nm while keeping the same size die space then 8 cores could happen. The FXs are some big CPUs when you compare them to what Intel has.
