So I'm going to need some help finding some information. A few weeks ago, sites were bragging that the switch 2 sold 4 million in its first week. Now 1 month in and the sales are supposedly at 5 million, which means its last three weeks have sold about one quarter the amount of it'slaunch week. Without any info to compare it to, I can't definitively say this is a sign of anything, but being one of the people hoping that consumers wouldn't put up with Nintendo's BS, It is a potential sign that switch 2 won't do very well. Can anyone find weekly sales charts for other consoles to compare to?

Scalpers

Like legit scalpers these days will buy the ENTIRE stock. Nintendo had a HUGE amount of presupply ready so what basically happened is that the bots bought everything and now there's millions of switches sold to scalpers and the standard day one buyers. Now sales have normalized and you can see the effect of the higher price.

Just look at used sites last week there were tens of thousands of switch 2 listing with a fair amount being multi unit listings.

The Nintendo Wii released on November 19th 2006 (and was available basically everywhere by December 8th). By the end of the year (a little over 3 weeks later) they'd sold 3.2 million units.

Based on that the Switch 2 is selling well. However, the Wii sustained (and even improved on) those kinds of sales figures well into 2010 (as Nintendo ramped up production), and arguably continued to sell very well into 2011 and 2012.

Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticeably improve performance past 240mm and don't improve at all past 360mm. 9) RTFM.

Pretty much any anticipated thing will have a massive spike at the very beginning (as long as supply is available) as everyone who was eagerly waiting buys straight away, then it quickly dips to "normal" rates.

atm cost is too much and to little aaa games. not everyone like mario kart. and third party games cost alot...like cp $80...

atm on steam its $51 for both game and expatiation. $27 for just the game(ends july 10)... i think f around and find out is happening as cost to play a 3 party game it too high. but Nintendo is standing strong and not bunging yet atlest.

dk is not out yet. but still is 2 games enough? the web cam is free for now but later will cost well its probably "free" if you have a Nintendo sub im guessing. also online sub is increasing too. not enough sales raise price that will fix it...

oh battery like on switch 2 is kinda bad too like 2 hours... dont no how it iis for like steam deck and others?

the screen is not as good as they say it is witch of course leaves room for an more expensive oled.

the original switch nes,snes,n64,sg,switch2 gamecube there no bind any key to anything...yet

not having the game on the cart is also a turnoff. ya there ways to say play 2 games with one game but still is that a enough. you the luxury to buy 2 switch 2. wow

did get a way to hook a mouse to it but we see were that go and what can use it and cant 🤷‍♂️nintendo mouse anyone?

oh and the micro sd for storage thing also just seem to be more cost down the road...

4 mill in a week? I don't think so. I believe they sold 5 mill in a month. I expected it to sell really well initially thanks to Switch 1, but it will most likely not outsell its predecessor's lifetime sales since it's a decent handheld at best and its games are overpriced as hell.

its the good old hype saying things sold out because there so much hype people love playing more...see look sold out.

ya i don't think getting banned by buying a used game should happen...that's on Nintendo... and its my not even be the sellers fault ether...

i mean it could just be a tactic to say look physical wont work so all digital it is... lots of stores only cray digital anyway...

You maybe right though I wouldn't be surprised if it actually did sell 5 mill in a month considering the initial demand for it. I just pity the Nintendo fanboys who defend their unethical crap simply because they like the platform. Smh!

So far there's lots of evidence Nintendo is doing just fine.

Scalpers played a role, but to what degree is pure speculation. There have been persistent retail shortages that suggest real customers are buying the Switch 2 en masse. There are checks in place to limit bulk online orders. And the reality remains that it's still the fastest-selling console ever in at least the US.

Besides, how exactly do you benefit if it turns out that Switch 2 sales cratered after launch? A haughty "I told you so?" Nintendo rushing to make some rather unlikely changes?

I don't agree with all of Nintendo's strategy. But I've also seen how the original Switch launch played out, and how the initial dearth of games didn't stop Nintendo from playing its cards well and having a hit that lasted several years despite technically superior competition.

You can point to trouble if Nintendo's quarterly sales are disappointing, or if the holiday season proves a dud. But I'm not about to proclaim gloom and doom because sales maybe, possibly dropped sharply after the first week. I would be shocked if Nintendo even partly sustained that kind of volume, as that would immediately put Sony on notice.

Wanted to follow up specifically as Nintendo has shared Switch 2 sales for the quarter — June, really.

The company sold 5.82 million Switch 2s in June, and is actually backlogged (over six million sales seven weeks in). It still expects to sell over 15 million consoles by the end of its fiscal year in March, so it should easily outpace the original Switch (which took a full year to reach the same milestone) barring surprises.

This is a reminder that a lot of the enthusiast community's outrage doesn't actually matter to (or even register with) the general public. You might not like the higher price, the stance on emulators, or other policies, but those don't have much sway with a 20-something who just wants to play Mario Kart on the bus, or a parent who wants a kid-friendly console before the family vacation.

A good parallel: if you believed hardcore Android enthusiasts a while back (not so much now), you'd have thought the iPhone was doomed because of Apple's more restrictive app policies, a lack of custom ROMs, and a general walled garden approach. But in the real world, most people don't care and Apple still enjoys a healthy market share — Android dominates because lower prices and variety are important for phones, not because buyers are making ideological stands.
