So last night (as a few of you know) my computer bit the dust. I had just downloaded Battlefield 3 and Dead Space, however I was unable to install them since there was a DirectX error. What I'm curious about is if it's possible for me to go into the hard drive and try to find the games, copy them over to my wannabe external hard drive, and then install them on my Grandma's computer (with Origin, obviously). I really hope I didn't waste most of my data cap just to lose all of it in a motherboard/PSU failure.

You will need to use a second computer that works to copy the files. If your HDD isn't damaged that is.

I guess you could just pull the HDD out of your computer and connect it to your grandmas computer to save the data.

sounds pretty simple eh

I use Ubuntu to do it.  It is as simple as finding the hard drive, then the files or folders. Then you can move them.

Uhm if the files aren't attached to your registry you can. I used to play WoW that was moved onto a external HDD and played it from one computer on another over my home network.

I have a PATA/SATA to USB adapter, and I can power it with a SATA power connector in granny's computer, I think.

And how would I go about installing them? Is there some option in Origin to try and locate where they might be and install them that way? Or will I have to copy the contents of my Origin folder to her computer?

Yeah, it's basically just the downloaded files AFAIK. Never got a chance to really install anything due to a DirectX error.

That should work. I installed BF4 from a USB drive, my brother downloaded it, installed it using his key and then passed the game data over to me, where I copied it onto my hard drive and installed using my key. There was no problem, origin detected the files automatically. I just placed the folder from the USB drive right where Origin would have downloaded it to (I think it was C:/program files/origin games), everything else worked fine.
