Are there even any 4k IPS (or no TN) panels?

yes but they are expensive such as the Dell monitors from the UP series

or the  Asus monitor that was launched a while ago

Hi,

In your opinion how long will it take for decent 4k IPS monitors to become affordable at 28".

By affordable I mean £200-300

What do you guys think?

You do know that even 27" 1440P displays never got cheaper than 450-500€, why would you think 4K displays would get that much cheaper? 4K is far away from beeing a normal standard.

I think 4k will get cheaper because it will become more popular due to a bigger difference from 1080p and more of a marketing campaign. Mass production of 4k panels could really push the prices down imo.

so...how many people do you know with a 4k display? I don't know anyone. And to really use a 4k display for gaming you would need one expensive pc.

Most people still have 1080p, nevermind 1440p and certainly not 4k.

Not for years. Literally. There are barely any 1440p IPS monitors that fit that price point after YEARS of being in production.

so...how many people do you know with a 4k display? I don't know anyone. And to really use a 4k display for gaming you would need one expensive pc.

I'm probably going to pick one up depending on how the PB287Q's TN looks in person, I want to be open minded... It's between that and the PB278Q's beautiful PLS. Plus the PB287Q has DP1.2a (FreeSync) and is 10bit.

Below 800? It's already happening.

I can see affordable 4k in the next couple of years. It would seem that the resolutions between are being skipped over, as 4k is the next above 1080p that is being pushed by manufacturers (Intel from their lastest note talking about pushing affordable 4k monitors, Sony/Samsung with their proprietary 4k tv/movie plans, ASUS with lappy's like their new GX500 with a 4k screen, etc).

I am open to adopting 4k. Just need the video cards to push it well.

Never say it's not broken. Everything is broken. Why? Because everything needs MOAR POWA!

I think it was on Linus' facebook page where he linked an article about the intel CEO saying that it will sink below 400$ in a year

here is an article: http://www.extremetech.com/computing/183720-intel-partners-with-samsung-to-halve-the-price-of-4k-monitors-but-its-useless-without-support-from-gpu-vendors-and-microsoft

If it's in a range of sizes:22 - 27, then I may wait and get a 4k monitor, perhaps as an aside monitor less IPS.

Titan z *cough cough* only the rich could afford such a thing at this time with the price of 4k and a titan z (most people think it is a waste of money but for someone who wants decent frame rates on a 4k monitor)

i do think the titan z is a waste of money JS
