Hello all,

New member to this forum and first time builder. I know there is supposed to be a specific way to write this and I will try to stick to it.

United States Dollar

why: I want a computer that can play video games like bf4, watch dogs, etc.. I also want it to store and play movies and music. And something I have all ways wanted to do and why not.

Budget: USD 900 to 1000. The parts I have selected and wrote down on my research paper have come out to $957.00.

short version just so you can see what I'm thinking about:

                                                                 CPU-AMD 6350

                                                                 MOBO- Asus m599x evo r2.0

                                                                 PSU- modular 550w

                                                                 GPU- R9 270x

Purchased- case- NZXT Source 530 (I know its big but I like it)

                                                                 Memory- G Skill 8 gb (2x4gb)

HDD- WD 1 TB (for now but plan to add more and upgrade to a SSD)

                                                                 OS- windows 7

Purchased- Optical- DVD ROM (still have stuff that are on disk)

I will be adding stuff as time goes on, like a card reader, fans, liquid cooling (at least for the CPU), maybe some LED lights (still arguing with the wife about that one). I know your supposed to buy some of this stuff together so you can install and make sure it works for warranty purposes, but I'm only able to purchase a few items each pay check or one big purchase each pay check (you get the point).

I know this was a long post and I was supposed to keep it short but as I said this is my first build and I just want to make sure I get it right or at least fix what I have messed up. Thanks for the suggestions and advise,

P.s. are there such a thing as PCI e slot covers. I was wanting to stick to a color them and the MOBO I chose is not within the colors I have planned. Thanks again!!!!

AMD FX 6300 Black Edition, ASRock 990FX Killer, 16GBs Memory @2133, 2 MSI R9 270x's in Crossfire, NZXT Kraken X41 Cooler, Samsung 850 pro SSD, 1 TB HDD, EVGA Supernova NEX 650 G, and with 4 other fans.

It's best to buy everything together in the event of receiving a faulty part. This way you'll know right away and can RMA it.

I like intel and have mostly bought (1 desk top and 2 laptops) with intel, but for some reason I cant bring myself to spending $230 on a cpu. I have had more problems with intel in the past with the 3 computers and have decided to try out AMD. thanks for the suggestions and I will probably get a couple of them like the SSD and the Memory. Thanks again.

I have been purchasing/using Intel parts for the best part of 10 years, and I have never had an issue. Sure, it's $230, but it's stronger for most (if not all) games than the FX 6350.

looks allright. if you reach 20$ more, you can get 8320, or just wait on discounts

I originally had the 6350 and went to the 8320 because it was just 20 $ more, and then back to the 6350. Im not going to multi task (very much, kinda 1 operation at a time). please excuses the ignorance but what would be the extra benefits to the 8320 from the 6350? what good would adding 2 more cores get me?

Im still in the research phase and only buying parts that will not affect the out come of the build, i.e. case, optics, fans, stuff like that. I have never really leaned left or right when it came to Intel or AMD. I really don't even know the difference between them. That's why im still researching the core components. With that said, if a $140 chip will do what a $230 chip will wouldn't make sense to spend that $90 upgrading something else within the build.

well, its up to you. the reason why intel can hold the premium price on their cpus is low power consumption and almost duble per core performance. it also has 4fpus, as opposed to 6300 3fpus. When overclocked both, i5 4670k destroys 6300.

The FX 6350 performs the same function as an i5 4670K, but it does not perform the function as well. Given your budget and the parts around the CPU, you can't use that $90 to get something else that would be as significant a change as a CPU.

It's a fine PSU from my own personal experience. But hey, if you can get something better, go for it.

that's what I have heard but the only why I could get the wife to agree to this is if I spread out the purchases. If anything were to happen I would have to fall back on the manufactures warranty. Its another reason I have decided to wait and purchase the MOBO, memory, and cpu until the very last since they are the core components. that would help me RMA them if needed.

Another research question- I have gotten conflicting answers about (not from here) AMD's APU's being used in tandem with a discreet graphics card. Can they both be used at the same time without having to turn one or the other off. I know I will have to choose a different MOBO cause AMD's APU's are FM2+ and the one I have listed is AM3+. And if they can be used in tandem wouldn't that help with better graphics?

That build was a suggestion, and not the one I came up with. Though, I will use some of the parts suggested. I don't think I will ever be able to come up with the money for the intel i5 chip which is why I was going with AMD's 6350 or 8320.

A while back you gave me a parts list and said I could get windows 7 on g2a for $25 is that just a product key? I have a copy of Windows someone made while trying to fix my laptop and he left it in the laptop. It's not a original widows 7 disc. If I could use that disc I would just need a product key. I have everything but windows key and itching to put my computer together.
