XFX ProSeries Core vs Black Edition

Go to solution Solved by quan289,

I found a noise level for the Seasonic G series psu.

I guess that's pretty quiet right?

I found a noise level for the XFX black edition aswell.

http://www.legitreviews.com/xfx-pro-series-850w-black-edition-psu-review_2239/7

The black edition is louder, is it because it uses more watts?

An 850w at full load would be louder than a 550w unit at full load, as it require a fan and fan profile that allow it to effectively cool a higher wattage unit. The Black Edition would be quiet overall though, as the fan does not spin up until 30% load, while the Seasonic G is an actively cool unit. Both the Seasonic G and Black Edition is around ~30dBA at 550w load; however, I'm unsure of how good their testing equipment are (I don't look at LegitiReviews for PSU reviews).

While the XFX XTR is a Seasonic G unit, like I had said, XFX had made the XTR to be semi-passively cooled and has a quieter fan than both the 2BB fan in the original Seasonic G and the Black Edition.

Here's a review on the XFX XTR 750w. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/03/06/xfx_xtr_750w_power_supply_review/1#.U4OVkSgYqy0

Hey there.

After i upgraded my gtx 660ti to a 780. My power supply started to make alot of noise. So now I'm looking for an upgrade. The two power supplies I'm thinking about is XFX Proseries Core or the Black Edition.

My only problem here is I can't really see the difference between the two. The only thing I can see is that the Black Edition is modular and it's a gold certified, the Core is bronze.

Does it really make a big difference in noise levels? I'm looking for a near silent psu.

Yeah it's good, I just don't wanna pay twice as much if it's just a matter of a few watts getting lost  :)

Im not sure everybody should play around inside PSUs...

And modular vs. unmodular......Why does it have to be XFX?

Most of theirs seem to be non modular...

This one is 650W but modular, its XFX and its 758 kr.

I would go with this. http://www.edbpriser.dk/stroemforsyning/corsair-rm650-id-7591707.aspx

The Mistress: Case: Corsair 760t   CPU:  Intel Core i7-4790K 4GHz(stock speed at the moment) - GPU: MSI 970 - MOBO: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 - RAM: Crucial Ballistic Sport 1600MHZ CL9 - PSU: Corsair AX760  - STORAGE: 128Gb Samsung EVO SSD/ 1TB WD Blue/Several older WD blacks.

The Core Edition is a mainstream unit from Seasonic, that's based on the SS-***AT platform like the Corsair TXv2. The ProSeries Black Edition is a high-end unit that's based on the Seasonic KM3 design, in which will be quieter due to the semi-passive design (has a switch to allow the fan not to spin up at lower loads).

The XFX XTR 650w that had been mentioned is a Seasonic G unit internally but with full modularity, a quieter FDB fan, and that switch like the Black Edition. I would go with that over the RM series.

It doesn't have to be a XFX, I'm just scared to buy a new psu. Because there is a chance it's going to be loud like the one I already have.

Well, seasonic is clearly the best in the business. They make like 90% of the PSUs in the world(I took that number completely out of my ass but its probably close)....many PSUs from other brands are in reality Seasonic. So you can't really go wrong with them.

I tend to use Seasonic, or Corsair. If you can find a good seasonic in your budget, go for it.

Okay, I'll go with the XTR model, sounds like a really good psu  :)

-Thanks for the detailed answers, I'm now completely confident to go out and buy it  :D
