[PLS HELP] GPU fan very loud after cleaning it

sliccy

A month ago I took out my 1080ti FE to clean the dust out, I turned the PSU switch off and unplugged the cable as I usually do. After plugging everything back in I noticed the gpu fan started to sound WAY lourder than it usually did, sounding like an airplane on high load when previously it was really hard to even hear it under very high load, also on boot my psu fan spins to max speed for the first 2 seconds (this didn't happen before). Also while gaming it felt like some games were underperforming. Also my Crucial SSD suddenly stopped showing temps on speccy after this.

I got really scared about it, even bought some extra fans since I thought it was a temp issue, then bought a new cooler for my cpu (although temps were pretty normal on 30-40c idle and 70-80 gaming). After installing the new cooler and booting up my pc, I got a bios message that said "Boot failure detected", so I just loaded optimized defaults then booted; that still didn't fix the gpu fan problem. I sprayed some canned air on my gpu again and still had the same issue. I also noticed that when I accidently moved my pcie cables from the gpu the gpu fans started to go at a crazy high speed and got an instant black screen, so that got me thinking its a psu issue.

I've tried changing my DIMMS to recommeded slots since they are dual channel, didn't fix it.

One night, my pc just wouldn't turn on, so I unplugged the power cable and plugged it back in, sprayed some compressed air into my psu and surpsingly that fixed the gpu problem and my pc came back to sounding and perfoming as it did before, but when I turned it off and boot it again the next morning the same problems came back and spraying air into my psu didn't fix it this time.

Some user told me that most likely it was indeed a psu issue, so I bought a new one, istalled it and it completely fixed everything. Then, the next morning, the gpu started to underperform and sound very loud once again. I updated bios and also didn't work.

I don't know what to do now, please help:((

It is 11gb, I got those specs from Speccy, it's a common bug. hwinfo shows up as 11gb

Oh speccy.

Anyway, what was your GPU temps when the fan was going into jet mode?

My gpu temps on high load are pretty good, got a 84c temp lock on afterburner by default, fans start to sound very loud at 70c and even louder at 83-84c. It's weird that while im having this fan and performace issue my gpu is way cooler and takes more load to ramp up the temps. Before all these problems my gpu heated up faster with less load but was less noisy,it was always like this and I never had performance issues at all. thx so much for responding btw; i've been ignored on every forum, really appreciate it:)

Your temps are no good. It's underperforming because it's thermal throttling. Repaste the gpu and make sure you have good mounting pressure. Blower cards are not quiet, but if the fan goes full blast with while performance decreased, you could have a temperature issue.

I've tried that already, repasted the gpu and cleaned all the dust in it; it changed nothing. A lot of people have told me those temps are pretty normal, so I'm not really sure what to make of this. How do I know if my mounting pressure is good? I've never opened my gpu before repasting it. Also don't think its thermal throttling since its not lagging or shutting down whatsover when temps peak, its more of a general underperformance if that makes sense. my 1080ti is a Founders Edition if that helps

Move your computer under your desk so that the noise is no longer being blasted into your ear.

lmao I did that, I'm very picky about noise so I can't really unhear it:(

Try moving the computer to the other side of the desk so that the fans aren't blowing against the side of the desk, also with the computer off, using the old mechanic's trick and apply a little force against the GPU by lightly giving it a smack as its possible when you cleaned it you inadvertently knocked something out of alignment.

You mean like, force it a little on it's socket? Could it be that it's not fitting properly?

That and actually give it a smack on the side of the GPU facing out, I had to do this on a couple of computer I worked on, what MAY have happened is that since the bearing surfaces are so small even a little knock could have moved it out of alignment and by applying a little shock force may put it back in place.

If either doesn't help you'll have to take it apart and reassemble the fans in place. Depending on the GPU this usually isn't too difficult.
