Windows doesn't detect 2nd Nvidia Tesla P40

Go to solution Solved by Bersella AI,

While it was not described on Supermicro's website, this problem was issued by Lenovo with their servers, and got mitigated with a BIOS upgrade. I checked out Supermicro's support pages and found the latest BIOS built in 2015, on which you may take a try.

Hello everyone

I wanted to upgrade one of my home lab servers with new GPUs.

The server is a Supermicro SYS-1017GR-TF which supports 2 GPUs.

Motherboard: X9SRG-F

CPU: Intel Xeon E5-1620

RAM: 64GB, ECC, 1600 MHz

Before there were 2 Nvidia Titan Black installed in the system.

I removed both and installed one Nvidia Tesla P40, which is running fine.

Then i installed the second one and booted into windows successfully.

The Device Manager didn't show the second GPU immediately, but after

30 seconds the second one showed up. At the same time there was a

windows notification at bottom right telling me i have to reboot the system

in order to finish the provisioning of the device. I did so, but the second GPU was gone.

The Device Manager only shows the first p40 since than.

I tried to unplug and replug the GPU, checked the PCIe-Settings in the BIOS, also
resetted the BIOS-Settings. After that the system didn't POST successfully anymore.
After some retries there was this message about "Insufficient PCI Resources detected".

Supermicro suggests to enable "Above 4G Decoding", which i did. But the 2nd GPU still isn't available.

Do you guys have any idea what the problem could be? Any hints?

Thank you very much!
Best regards
