Rate my $1350 build for 4k

Budget (including currency): $1200 give or take

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Jedi Survivor, BG3, Star Wars Outlaws, Elden Ring,

Hey everyone, breaking a VERY long hiatus to come to LTT and ask for build advice. Cobbled this together from various deals. Aliexpress for the SSD (generic model used), GPU from a local store, CPU+Mobo+RAM from a micro center bundle.

Trying to get the best value, I have a 4k 120hz OLED that I got for very cheap through a Best Buy pricing error.

Currently powering it with an RX 6850m XT xg mobile from ASUS paired to my Flow X13 laptop. It's identical to a desktop 6700xt and even boosts to 2350 mhz.

They sell for $900 used, and I'm not looking to go too crazy out of pocket, hence my $1200ish budget.

Looking for the best value 4k PC, with full intent to use upscaling and frame gen - favouring NVidia for that right now. I use AMD's AFMF through Radeon Software, and FSR when available, but it's inadequate for 4k 120. Leaning towards DLSS.

Here's what I've got so far.

SFF builds to the top. Builds that perform about the same for significantly less money, to the top.

I'm out of space on my 1tb laptop right now and ordered a $100 2tb 2230 ssd off aliexpress lol, but yeah 2tb would be fine I just loved that price for 4tb.

Any major suggestions? The 4070 ti super at $750-800 seems like the best value for 4k right now. Is there better? Ideally with DLSS Balanced and Frame Generation, I want to hit 100+

7900xtx should be better but a little above that price range

Smaller SSD, 32gb RAM and 7900xtx for $1445, for cheaper return to 4070TiS you originally had

Where are you getting the rest of the parts so cheap 😮

Consistently about 10-20% more performance from the 7900xtx than the 4070TiS, on par with the 4080S or slightly better performance wise iirc

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D [-30 PBO all core]

GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT NITRO+ [1050mV, 2.8GHz core, 2.6Ghz mem]

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

Yeah I know, but I'm quite sensitive to the FSR shimmer, don't have a lot of faith in XeSS rn, and prefer DLSS' frame generation which is supported in a bunch of the games I care about.

Neither of these are native 4k GPUs for 100+ fps, so after a while with FSR I'm going to unfortunately have to choose the better upscaler 😕

Yeah, i understand that, plus it is decently over your budget, the only other option would be a 4080/S which would be a large portion of your budget on its own, so i think your in the sweet spot/best spot you can be with the 4070TiS

I can't change a lot of it, fuck it a 2TB SSD is fine but I'm locked in to that micro center bundle lol, 12600kf plus ram and decent Z790 motherboard for $250 is fucked. That's why the prices are that cheap.

Also saving a little room for a thin, white ATX case that won't look too obtrusive on the wall of my tiny studio apartment.

Then this build should be what youre looking for, a saving on the SSD that should largely cover the PC case's cost

Though that is the cheapest 4tb NVMe ive seen before

Thanks I appreciate it. Any leads on a thin, white case that takes an ATX motherboard? It's going on the wall of my studio apartment, price doesn't matter.

I'd be tempted to agree with that as well.

While I'm not yet ready to jump all over the Ray Tracing scene, DLSS is a game changer and superior to FSR so the 4070ti Super is on my radar as well. Strangely enough, been considering one to shift an older 3080ti down my stack a little.

Have you considered one of the open / show piece cases like the Thermaltake Core P3 or something similar. From the pics it does have feet but I'm sure I've seen pics of these fitted to walls.

Yeah I've been an FSR user since launch, on my GTX 1060 laptop that I used till late 2023 (yes really) and now my 6850m xt (desktop 6700xt).

... Way too many issues. It's better than nothing but just barely, to the point where I use XeSS whenever available.

The P3 isn't a case it's a tempered glass side panel with on a slab lol and it's thick. I'm looking for something skinny, like the Fractal Ridge but for ATX. The SFFtime P-ATX or N-ATX would be perfect for me and I would gladly spend $200 on them but they're sold out with no news on new stock...
