Any ways to improve network performance?

Hello! I still live with the parents and I have a generic router with wifi access point combo that all the cable companies give out. Anyways, I mainly game upstairs and the network doesn't reach the best. I have a wifi range extender that I use that is connected to my pc via ethernet from the range extender. Does anyone know what I can do to improve performance of the wifi in general, but mainly the performance on my pc? Id like to spend around 100 USD if possible! Thank you!

What @BiotechBen is asking is what speed you pay the ISP for. Getting 94 Mbps when you pay for 100 mbps is very different from getting 94 mbps when you pay for 1000 Mbps.

 

Generally speaking using a wireless extender approximately halves the internet speed in my experience in best case scenario. If I had to guess I would bet you pay for either 200 or 300 Mbps.

And @TylerD321If you're paying for 100 symmetrical, something like powerline or MoCA may be something that you can use for a more stable connection hooked to a simple router like a trendnet ac1200 from amazon for about $20.

And if you have DOCSIS cable modem service, it's expected that your upload speeds will be an order of magnitude slower than your download speeds. That's only changing when the cable companies roll out DOCSIS 4.0.
