Please help. I need to upgrade my PC, is this good?

Budget (including currency): 15 000 sek ( 1400 USD ish)

Country: Sweden

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming and browsing. I play games like Helldivers 2, fortnite and valorant etc.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I currently have a very shitty prebuilt pc and I'm in a despearate need of an upgrade. I'm thinking of buying these parts:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600

Graphics card: Gigabyte Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB Gaming OC

Chassi: Phanteks Eclipse G360A

Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2x16GB)

SSD: Kingston KC3000 M.2 2TB

Power supply: GIGABYTE UD750GM

CPU cooler: DeepCool AG400

Is this a good build within my budget?  I don't know anything about computers, I just want the games I play to run smoothly with good graphics.

I have two monitors. I'm gonna upgrade my current monitor i use for gaming as well. I'm propably gonna buy a 144hz monitor but i'm not sure if I should go for 1440p or 1080p. Will this build be able to handle 1440p with decent fps?

Yup!

FYI: the 7700 non-X and 7600 non-X do come with coolers.

Looks fine. The only choice I'd be dubious about is the PSU, purely because of Gigabyte's recent history with them.

Everything that Tetras said and also;

What speed is the RAM?

It should handle it pretty decently, some of the more demanding games on high graphics settings will struggle, like cyberpunk or starfield, but they're extreme cases

For PSU recommendations, id recommend anything in A tier but B tier is also perfectly fine;

Get G. Skill RAM, lose the Corsair Vengeance line.    Their DDR5 doesn't always play well with AMD.

maybe there's less room, but you still can slightly tune the build, especially if your ram wasn't the speed mine was, and SSD

are we not just fanboying brands here, I'm certain lot of Corsairs are more than fine with AM5, unless there's like hardware level on more than 50% of the made chips that make them hard to run with AM5?

There have been quite a few threads about issues with Corsair RAM, enough to warrant not recommending it for AM5 systems at this time.

Sure, I'll fanboy for G. Skill.  My wallet is at least 🙂

But TeamGroup's RAM is good stuff currently, for the more budget oriented.

Basically Corsair is so popular for RAM that we're seeing issues creep up. Even if it's just 0.1% of users ,there are so many users that becomes a decent number to notice.  How low of a % is it?  No idea, but RAM shouldn't EVER be an issue so I recommend that which I have had no issue with for many years now 🙂

I was thinking about going with 1 TB instead of 2 and buy a better graphics card instead. 1 TB is what I have now and I think it should be enough.

about the brands, I'm kinda confused, is there some brands that I should stay away from?

RAM is not a big issue and usually works whatever the brand, don't worry too much

Now in certain case and using XMP/EXPO some work better/faster than others

And sure better have a small SSD and a good GPU, you can add storage easily but not "extend" your GPU 🙂

Corsair is perfectly fine for budget builds, but I'm a big fan of the GSkill over Corsair if your budget will reach to that.... and it will.

You could swap back to the Corsair/Phanteks cases if you wanted a non-WiFi motherboard (the AsRock B650M Pro RS non WiFi will save you kr250)... I don't use WiFi, but it gets you a good Bluetooth onaboard.

Be careful with 1TB SSDs, it is very easy to pay e.g. $80 for a 1TB when a $110 gets you a 2TB, if you know what I mean.

About the graphics card, the 7700 XT gets 103.5 FPS average @ 1440p (max settings, no upscaling, no ray tracing) in TPU's testing, so it is really not a bad option (there's a chart above the table that gives results for individual games).

Most reviews suggested you get the 7800 XT at the time of release, because the price difference wasn't big enough to justify the performance difference. Recently though, there have been some very good deals on the 7700 XT (and the similarly performing RX 6800), so the choice is less simple.

I'd also argue that if you're willing to pay for the 7800 XT, you should consider the 7900 GRE too, which has been recently rereleased internationally and is often better value than the 7800 XT:

I have corsair I think, no issues, in fact I think it's running over it's advertised speed.

No idea, but RAM shouldn't EVER be an issue so I recommend that which I have had no issue with for many years now 🙂

perhaps it's a cost thing, where it's the most bought ram so it can accumulate also the most amount of faulty pieces?

I was thinking about going with 1 TB instead of 2 and buy a better graphics card instead. 1 TB is what I have now and I think it should be enough.

about the brands, I'm kinda confused, is there some brands that I should stay away from?

not really, it's less about brands for most parts,

specific models are a thing to slightly look out for, though here experienced people won't recommend you bad stuff in general,

the most sensitive part brand and model wise can be PSU

And sure better have a small SSD and a good GPU, you can add storage easily but not "extend" your GPU 🙂

can always buy more storage later, both bulk/speed/both

Be careful with 1TB SSDs, it is very easy to pay e.g. $80 for a 1TB when a $110 gets you a 2TB, if you know what I mean.

that depends on several factors, speed and quality, not just size, and even then, with smaller SSD you'd rather have higher quality one, if the saved budget by getting lower quality SSD wouldn't bring any meaningful upgrade for other parts

That's true, but I meant to refer to how with the offers and the size discount, it can happen even with the exact same SSD, so just something to watch out for.

Corsair is worth a gamble for a budget build, but the main concern with Corsair is their inconsistency... so if you buy two sticks that work well, then awesome.... but adding another 2 sticks is very risky: I was suckered in by the rave reviews of the early 2x8Gb DDR4 Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 C16 RAM that could run way above their rated speeds as they had high end Samsung B-die memory modules.... when I went to buy another 16Gb kit of EXACTLY the same part number FROM CORSAIR, they had downgraded it to SKHynix that would scarcely run at the XMP speeds.... and couldn't run at the XMP speeds with any other memory in the system, even when paired up with the "identical" kit from Corsair.

I don't actively avoid Corsair for for budget builds, but as soon as you're spending a reasonable amount of money, then I've found GSkill is the most reliable and the one that most serious benchmarkers / reviews seem to use.

that's unlucky, though I wouldn't run more than 2 sticks of RAM myself in my PC, so I guess for me it's not as applicable

Thanks for all the feedback!  I'm now leaning towards going with this build instead with a slightly better GPU and less SSD. Does this one work? Can I improve something?

I was thinking about going with the gigabyte motherboard that @PDifolco suggested but I have read some mixed reviews  about their motherboards. Is it something I should look out for? Which one will be better in the long run, the asus or the Gigabyte?

I'm now also thinking about whether it is worth going for the 7900 GRE or not. There is a 650- 850 kr price difference depending on what brand. I've been checking out these two for example:

ASRock Challenger OC Radeon RX 7900 GRE 16 GB Video Card

Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 7900 GRE 16 GB Video Card

Is it worth it? or is 7800xt still a good GPU? If I choose the 7900 GRE, I'll  have to cheap out on the  other parts to make it fit into my budget. I have a hard time deciding what is best value for my money. There are so many options😅

Can't know the long run, but personally I have run quite a few Gigabyte boards (see sig) for years now and haven't had any issues.  Either will work great, so pick what you feel comfortable with.

7800XT is a great GPU, and a 10% price tick for a 7900GRE gives roughly 10% more fps on average i Have seen.  You can always pay more for more, you just need to figure out where to stop 🙂

I think the 7800XT is plenty, and will be way more than enough for 1080p.  If you do go 1440p, it'll be good but the 7900GRE would be better.

It's quite nice

Really I think the boards are equivalent, if you want even more advice watch this

As for GPU I'm unsure the GRE is worth it, it's not consistently better than the 7800XT due to lower bandwidth or other gimped stuff

In your situation if you can spend some more Viking rupees 😛 I'd try to get an 8 core CPU rather (7700XT), but then you need a cooler, and it's kr2000 more overall...

What have you heard? You can read bad things about every brand really.., there's plenty of negative stories about Asus and AM5. My opinion is that they ALL need a BIOS update from new (unless it is already updated when it arrives) and once done, it will fix most of the teething troubles.

Well and they're better.

But seriously, that case comes with 3 front fans, but no exhaust.  I'd grab at least 1 or 2 exhaust fans.  Or move one to the back?

I think there's only one Gigabyte B650 to really avoid.... but a couple of Asus boards that are even worse.

A lot of the Gigabyte boards are on the better end of the VRM scale... personally I'd be looking at the AsRock PG Riptide or cooler (RS Pro being the best value with 14+2+1 stage VRMs that run really cool).
