How to best clean my monitor screen? (Dell Alienware AW3423DW)

Actual_Criminal

I have a Dell Alienware AW3423DW monitor and it is great, but after around 6 months, I have noticed it is a finger print magnet; even wiping it with a cloth (or alcohol cleaning wipes) causes these bubbles on the screen OR prints.

No there is no film over the top, but it looks like that. - You can't really see the marks when something is on screen, unless it is a Black background. See example below:

Microfiber cloth and a little bit of water.

Just make the cloth slightly damp, that should do the trick.

Really water? Just normal tap water?

NEVER USE ALCOHOL!!!!! This destroys the coating.

Use a wet microfiber cloth or worst case actual screen cleaner.

If after acreen cleaner spots stay that means its already damaged from the alcohol

You'll need two clean small towels.

  • With first towel, rinse it with warm water and a liquid soap so it has some suds, but not too soapy. Also, do NOT use soap that contains things like aloe or moisturizers. Dawn dish soap is good to use for example. Be sure to hand squeeze the water from it leaving it damp, but not dripping.
  • With the second towel, get half of it wet with warm water only. Be sure to leave enough of it dry for the other half.

Using the first towel, gently wipe down the entire monitor until clean. Now quickly chase it down with the second towel to remove the soapy residue. Finally, using the dry side to remove the water streaks. Will probably have to buff it gently (don't use force) a few swipes to remove all streaks in fact.

Should be good as new. You'll probably never get it perfect, but darn near close to it to satisfy.

The magic is in the microfiber cloth. A clean microfiber cloth picks up a lot with just some water.

To properly clean tbe cloths they do need to be washed at near boiling temps else their effectiveness goes way down

Yup!  No chemicals, that can destroy the monitor and the coating as mentioned.

Just a damp microfiber cloth will do the trick 🙂

Yes, this is a bad idea.

I've had good results with WHOOSH!

The dots are probably just spit that collects when you talk in front of your screen. Wipe it off with a damp microfiber cloth, then wipe it off with another dry microfiber cloth. If necessary, use a screen cleaner, not alcohol.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
