(It was backlight bleed) I think the IPS Glow on this LG 27GP95RP-B (2023 model) is too bad.

It was backlight bleed as it didn't improve from different distances, angles or brighter room. Additionally the bleed is visible during normal content as a washed out color area forms where the bleed is strongest, meaning it doesn't depend on the content on screen,  which is the backlight. See my last comment for the full explanation and image.

Unfortunately I'm not at home but as soon as I'm back I'll add more photos.

So last week I decided to buy this 2023 LG GP95RP-B 400 nits IPS (on the left, while on the right is a Samsung G3 VA 250 nits) that retailed for 650+ EUR and I got it for 485 form LG itself. Colors, brightness, contrast...all is good, except for the IPS glow, which is too strong even with my 2000nits lightbulb. In the photo you can see the glow in the corners, the areas where it's darker is just Local Dimming, which gives a good black level, whereas with LD off the entire screen looks like those corners and it's unbearable. It's a pretty uniform bad glow and even getting farther doesn't do much. My Legion 5 15ARH7H 300 nits IPS is magnitudes better, so much so that I watch movies on it. Even my cheapo Dell S2319H form 2018 has lower IPS glow. Could it be a bad run? Should I ask for a replacement?

Thank a lot, really appreciate.

You could ask for a replacement, but really any IPS monitor will look bad in such lighting conditions, as they simply don't have enough contrast to get to deep blacks. It's not surprising that your VA monitor on the right looks significantly better in a pitch black room.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I know that, but then how can my laptop's black be so much better that if I try to take a picture of it with lights on, all I can see is my reflection. Whereas the glow on the LG is visible even when watching a video. That's what made me doubt the quality.

Once I get home, I'll post a comparison photo with my IPS laptop screen.

I've found a little bias lighting behind the monitor can make a huge difference to perceived black levels. Try putting a low-wattage table lamp back there.

That's what I've read but I didn't know it could make a big difference. What brightness should the lamp have? And do you point it straight at the wall? Thanks

IPS never suitable used in total dark room. All is similar if using in dark room. For dark room, go for OLED is the best choice, or a good VA panel.

I just have a cheap desk lamp with a 40 watt equivalent LED bulb in it, pointed at the wall behind my "TV as a monitor". The wall is painted in off-white semigloss, and the bulb is the same color temperature as the other artificial lighting in the room (2700K). The glow is about as bright as a medium gray on-screen.

If you already have a lamp, it won't cost you anything but time to give it a try. 🤷‍♂️

I unfortunately don't have one, only an extra bulb. But I will surely buy one. Maybe that's why some gaming monitors have RGB behind them

Dimmer room is ok, but total dark like your photo, IPS is not suitable especially if you are very concern on the IPS glow issue.

The anti reflective coating can make a huge difference in terms of black levels, maybe your laptop has a glossy display coating, or at least a less gainy one. LG typically has very grainy coatings, which do a great job at diffusing reflections, but will make it look worse in dark environments.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

This is probably the reason. The LG is definitely more coated than my laptop.

I figured it out, it's definetly backlight bleed. Although not too noticeable compared to the rest of the screen, it doesn't get any dimmer with distance or angle AND it's noticeable even when watching a video. As you can see the black uniformity is bad, this is with Local Dimming OFF. Taking this photo in the dark and adjusting the exposure to make the issue more visible helps and it reflects exactlywhat I've experienced. See the darker center area that looks like a cross from the swedish flag? That's what all of it should look like as it's very dark and uniform, like my laptop's display. The bleed is so spread out that it almost covers the entire screen and made me think it's the coating or the nanoIPS, but it isn't. The bottom right corner is the most noticeable and visible in most content, the other ones only in in middle grey colors. I'm RMAing this monitor. Thanks a lot everyone, people here have been super responsive, miles ahead of any other support platform and I can upload photos from mobile without any app, simply wow. Hoping for better luck next time. Maybe it won't turn into a grind of RMAs for weeks until I get a good one, but I'll surely keep going until I get a good one.

And yes it's very noticeable because even if it's close to the center in terms of glow, it still persists when viewing brighter content in a bright room. IPS improves in bright areas and while the cross area 100% improved, the corners didn't improve at all and gave a washed out effect to colors.
