what is this thing?

So.... The internet cable comes from outside then it goes into the lower box. The yellow wire comes out of it and goes into this upper box I marked

Then a blue ethernet cable connects from it to my router.

Soo what's the thing I marked? And is it replaceable by just the ISP?

It's an ONT, it takes the fiber (yellow line) and converts it to copper

It's not something that's generally replaceable by anyone but the ISP

They don't just "go bad", they aren't like that. They take a signal and convert it, there aren't moving parts or anything. It's a relatively simple mechanism.

It's like asking if your SSD is going to suddenly go bad or your CPU.

Like with all electronics, when you smell burning and it just stops working.

If it still works, it doesn't need to be replaced.

The only thing it does is convert between copper and fiber optic. It doesn't do any processing; that's all done by your router.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

I'd be more worried about the dirt and grime collection on the fan ending up in my computer.

And you don't think the dirt and grime gets airborne when the fan is running?
