I would want a graphics card in my steambox personally...

The OP did say that it would be good for a living room PC to stream to, but yeah, not everyone has an awesome AC wireless router.

Ethernet! Or use a powerline kit for like £15

Steam in home streaming is what I was going for. Works very well. Also great for a HTPC playing back HD movies etc

OR

A decent little PC for spare room/Parents/grand parents/ kids/ dog... whoever needs a basic cheap fast PC

I was looking at powerline kits a while ago when I got into the Steam Home Streaming beta, but I decided not to since I live in an old house and the wiring might be differently configured or aged.

I guess it can be an issue. I sold like a million a day when I used to work in retail. Never really had many back. As long as the rooms are on the same mains circuit it should be absolutely fine. You may get a degraded speed but it should still be ok.

Try borrow a set/pick up cheap pair? You could always return them to a retail and be like "these dont work, the salesman never told me that they had to be on the same mains" etc
