Internet dark forest AI gen and shift in social media.

The idea that bots control the most internet and ways to combat it?

I have a feeling that we need to shift from big monolith social media tw/x FB parts of YT and discord and go back small forums like LTT forums.

Would anyone else here thinking of dealing with this these AI iusses

This is a take that I've seen a bit more and more over the past few years but it seems to have exponentially grown since AI came around - the number of bots has noticeably increased.

I personally don't use any large social media. As far as forums go on the tech side, LTT is actually one of the largest - there are some smaller more tight-knit forums that I'm also on, just a few thousand members.

I think AI filling the internet with nonsense, and seriously harming the usefulness of the web, is a pretty likely outcome over the next couple of years. It will probably break the ad supported model too, as there will be so much content with ads, each ad will be virtually worthless.

Just don't use anything that gets too messy to use. Too many bots, low quality unoriginal content, hostile environment, whatever. Just leave.

The problem is most people don't leave.

indeed planning sighing to a few forums again and grabbing my RSS feed links.

it would be nice if some programer could make a jazzed up RSS reader that works like standard social media feed maybe with a tap auto loads the web site inline.

This is just a lazy rehash of the "dead internet theory" which in itself is a conspiracy theory, not an actual thing that's happening.

the truth is it never made any sense to use "big social media" like fb and twitter ... yet people never understood this, often, ironically (?) people who also absolutely don't understand the internet... that's what you get for leaving these things unchecked... sure, forums, but the problem is these people are addicted,  the grave the "attention" (from mostly bots ig?)

internet needs a complete reboot,  no way around it.

nah internet is mostly dead as far search engines, communities,  etc goes... its mostly used by big corporations as a money making scheme,  that's not its intended use case and its a bad thing because there's no checks and balances...

like yes, it exists, but its not what it used to be.

This is the Internet we're talking about. How do you kill that which has no life?
