New ITX build 5600 shoots to 70 degrees in bios. 83 in game

filpo
Go to solution Solved by porina,

From Zen 2 onwards they really cut down on the bundled cooler size. I'd only consider them basically usable. If you want better temps and performance that comes with it, slap a better cooler on.

If you don't have case airflow, that will help somewhat. At a minimum, a single exhaust at the back would be my preference.

After doing all the installations and updates I tried rocket league to see how it performs and my frames are good (max settings it gets 240, about what I got before but before was higher cuz I had an under volt on the gpu and cpu)

im using the stock cooler on my 5600 for easiness but I do have a 280 arctic liquid freezer ii, however I’m skeptical that it’ll fit. I tried without anything in it and it didn’t seem like it would. I can try tho

back to temps, in bios I get 65 to 70 degrees with the fan speed on full and in game with a very light load on the cpu I get 83 degrees. I tried a fur mark and my gpu temps were fine but the cpu shot up to 95 at 30% usage and it crashed short after (I haven’t done a cinebench yet but I can)

anyone got any advice? There aren’t any fans in the system apart from those on the components and I can add about three case fans without moving much (two on the side, one possibly at the bottom. One can go up top but it’ll be difficult). Pic below of in game temp and usage (fps is at 120 because I capped it to that manually to get a lower gpu usage and temp, also my tv’s only 60)

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Expand for common PC building advice, a short bio and a list of my components and other tech. I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

Not really possible in the nr200p. Haven’t got a 92mm fan but I can add a top exhaust. I’m trying what @will0hlep said just after it shuts down. I’ll update with what happens. Specs are in sig apart from case, mobo and psu. Case is nr200p, mobo is itx b550 and cooler is stock. Psu is an nzxt from a h1

Didn't realise it was a SFF build. It looks like it has top mounts, so exhaust there would be my pick. Basically do something to prevent static air around the CPU cooler. Good luck with the remount.

sorry for replying late. Cinebench wouldn’t open two times

Just as a heads up here’s the thermal paste application , I can add a bit more as I have a bit of nt-h1 lying around

new fan installed too. Pointing at the stock cooler

IMG_5839.jpeg

IMG_5838.jpeg

I’ve also adjusted the fan curve of the case fan to how I wanted it. Doesn’t seem to be too loud

temp in bios have gone down to 61 with the fan in silent mode, changing fan curve now

stock cooler stuff, here's my teamps during the R23 Cinebench render on my 5600: (I have AG400 cooler)

I did have an open window and it's quite chilly outside so the temps would normally be hitting 60C on some

also I'd be little bit mindful of that almost 1cm squared empty gap of thermal paste

the one in the pic in the post above? I was wondering, is that where the cores are? then that'd make more sense as to why it was happening. temps have gone down but i haven't tried a stress test yet (cinebench 2024 just downloaded, will update)

cores are in middle ish region, but since the metal above them that you can see conducts heat and spreads it on itself, you conduct less heat from the CPU because the heat transfer on the non-thermal pasted area will be slower

at least I think, otherwise you know what the TJmax is like you're far from having issues at 80C while gaming unless it keeps climbing to 90C and throttles the CPU's clocks..

@porina @Somerandomtechyboi @podkall @will0hlep

sorry to ping you all like this but I just wanted to say the problem is more than fixed. It took some trying but the AIO is in. Temps on startup are at ~35 and under full load they don’t break 50, just like my old build

thanks for the help everyone! (Pics below)
